Lets talk GEC!

As for the desirable weight for a knife, that's up to the individual, but when I want ultimate lightness (multiday hikes for example) I turn to an Opinel. By preference, the #6 (big enough for what I'm going to need and the backspine will raise a good spark from a ferro rod in the closed position), the Inox (better in damp conditions than the Carbone), and Walnut (doesn't swell like the standard Beech when wet, plus it's 2g lighter). Cheap as chips, 25g (or just under an ounce to our American friends), safety lock, decent handle, easily maintainable in the field, and still a 'proper' knife. Nothing comes close for the weight (unless you can tell me different).

Otherwise, it's a GEC pretty much every time, because the day always feels that bit better when there's a GEC in your pocket.
The simplicity, compact size and light weight of the Opinel No 6 are a couple of the reasons I carry one regularly.
I love GEC's build quality and different patterns and blade shapes, but if I had to pick one pocket knife for the rest of my life, It might be an Opinel No 6.

Actually, I'm very excited- unrelated to GEC, but my brother in law wanted an Opinel for his upcoming birthday.
So I bought him 3; a 06, 07 and 08.

The ultimate Opinel triptych, for me, is the three which are made in Walnut/Inox - #6, #8, #9 - but perhaps veering a little off-thread now...

I'm pretty excited about upcoming releases, but also quite excited to be visiting Titusville in about a month. I will take a factory tour and buy some stuff. I have looked around about accommodations in town and in the general area.

Does anyone have special advice or recommendations for lodging and food, or anything else?

Thanks in advance for any tips!
I like trains so a couple of times I’ve stayed at The Caboose Motel, where you are housed in an actual train caboose. I’ve not stayed there in several years but the rates then were reasonable and the location is near the factory.

Nice one. Thanks.

i hope those lodgings are better than cross creek resort 🤣 dont get me wrong, theyve done some renovations, and i think smoking is no longer allowed in the rooms, but eh its still like a motel from the 1980s

Wise and profound words. 😁
