Lets talk GEC!

Thanks! Yeah, I use a simple electric engraver that works basically like a micro jackhammer. A while ago I got an idea of engraving my initials on my GECs' shields. Firstly, because I heard that's what those shields are there for. Secondly, because I love GEC knives, they are aesthetically perfect traditionals for me, hence I wanted to protect them from being occasionally sold (by myself) due to any clouding of reason of some sort. Lastly, it also makes them potentially a less desirable objects for stealing. And maybe a little bit of self-pride has to do something with it too. :)

P.S.: an occasional fun of engraving ornaments and such on plain-metal handles of modern folders occurs as well. If GEC shield is big enough I usually add a simple ornament there too, but I really wish I didn't, on some of them. 😬
I like it - looks nice and the personalization is fun. On the shields you wish you didn't, maybe you can cover it like a bad tattoo lol.

My dear mother rest her sole had asked me at a somewhat young age to promise her that if I ever got a tattoo that I wouldn't be responsible for the spelling, and after some reflection she asked that I include my buddies in that as well.

Nice collection, JB!!! I'm sorry I missed those keychain knives!!
I dropped a hint!! And JB in LV JB in LV responded!!!Birthday Key.jpg

He sent me the Keychain Knife, and also the SAK, I think because I agreed SAKs are even more useful!!!! Ha Ha!!!
I received them on my Birthday yesterday, so consider them unbeknownst presents!!! More Ha Ha's!!!
Thanks, Jeff, they are BOTH going on my Keychain as we speak/read!!
Thanks so much, Jeff!!!

I am glad they arrived quickly and you like them, Charlie, waynorth waynorth . I got one of each 05 when they were released. I really do like the covers on your 05, they are quite nice. That Alox Classic was on my keys prior to swapping in my 05.

I know there is a knives on keychains thread or two (because I have posted there), I generally rotate between a SAK Classic, GEC 05, LB1. And father's P-38 that has been on my keys as long as I have had keys. I just want the profile of the keychain knife to be smaller than my key fob, not difficult to accomplish.

Oldy Oldy , will do. I should be able to take and post some pics of the 78's tomorrow. That cranberry may just be my favorite GEC I own (excluding GEC-made Northwoods Presidential, that is), and 78 my favorite GEC pattern.

Happy Birthday, sir!

Oldy Oldy and I were chatting about 78's for a couple days. Here are a few pics of mine, especially the cranberry that was out to reapply mineral oil. The M&G Yankee Whittler is the one that gets carried (spear, clip, pen - -- ah, just jam them all in there), the cranberry is my favorite.

There's the reason right there why this is the first 78 cranberry I have seen, only 25 made thanks for sharing also i wouldn't mind seeing those handles more often,i have those handles on my 92 and really like it i would be interested to see if they are on any other patterns.how bulky are the m&g yankee whittlers to carry, probably less so than a 2 bladed 54 which I have carried alot.

I am not the best to speak on that, but...

Don't have a 54, but a 53 (two spring, three blade stockman 538311). The 53 is longer. Similar width, feel similar weight. Method of carry would matter to me. I usually carry the Yankee Whittler loose (or wrapped in a handkerchief) in RFP of long pants/jeans. Many people EDC a Buck 110, albeit in a pouch - and that's much larger than those.
