Lets talk GEC!

Really liking the looks of this 14 pattern that is coming up. I had to go with the ebony single blade. Nice and simple.
It looks like the old small imperials with the metal or black synthetic jigged covers size wise. Nice little knives. Still looking forward to the Beagles more I think.

Wonder why information isn't available for #15 cover (Beer Scout/Boys Knife), but is available for the #14...

#14

Rust Red Jigged Bone
Antique Yellow Jigged Bone
Gabon Ebony
OD Green Linen Micarta
Nifebrite Acrylic

#15

???????????????????????????????????

Another month has gone by ..........

Maybe wait until they have all of their quarterly and end of year reports completed....tax season isn't over yet. I'm guessing they'll be posted when everything from 2015 is finalized.

Patience......however if you're stressing out that badly for the total number of a certain knife you have, give GEC a call and ask nicely.

The one thing I noticed about the covers listed for the #14 is that, with the exception of the OD Micarta, they are the "standard" covers that GEC has used on previous runs of the #15 Boy's Knives. So maybe they're using those "standard" covers on the #14, but the run of #15 Boy's Knives (with the sheepsfoot and caplifter) might use covers that are a little different (maybe the same covers as the upcoming Beer Scouts?). But really... who knows? :D

I'm curious, why do people want to know about production numbers? I'm sure there is some good reason, but I can't come up with it.

Purely for collecting. Some of their handle combinations are made in VERY small numbers, less than 10 pieces, and may carry some additional collecting interest. By comparison, Case considers anything less than several thousand pieces to by a Limited Edition (LE) knife.

Good observation, that makes sense.

I did see a post that the Beer Scout's and the Boys Knife will have the same covers... just don't know what type yet.

I remember hearing awhile back that Bill was killing off the "GEC" line of GEC. That is to say all the new 440C knives would no longer have the Acorn shield or the GEC etch. I've been in denial because I personally love both 440C and that shield but I see the new navy knife is 440c and Tidioute branded. Is it really true? Is the GEC line gone?

Good stuff! I like the stag on both 83s.

Not sure if their GEC line is gone. I certainly hope they will keep offering knives in 440C (or other stainless steel).
Shield and etch are secondary issues to me

I sure don't have the answer. But as I interpret the rumors, they have not quite gone as far as you suggest.
I believe the squirrel etch is is history. They have replaced it in 2014 and has not been back.
The acorn shield was used on a SFO of fixed blades in 2016 (H10 cocobolo, pile side).
And 440C is being used in a SFO for the #15 Navy knife.

With the news of fewer SFOs, who knows.

No. The Navy knife was a victim of careless copy/paste at the factory when sending the notice to dealers. And those dealers that don't pay enough attention (me), just copy/pasted that. The 440C Navy knife will be GEC branded.

Thanks for the clarification.

Excellent! Thanks.

I'll snag one in any case but I was kinda hoping for a hotdog to match the ebony navy knife I already have. I was way too late to the party to snag one of the super cool rope knives.
