Lets talk GEC!

Pulled mine out of the mailbox when I got home late last night. I'm really happy with it. Interesting how they chose to pair the thick stag at opposite ends rather then mirror.

Did I miss these? I have yet to see any come up on my normal vendors.

It was a very short run. The vendors got very limited numbers of each handle material. I think most were spoken for before they ever made it to a vendors website or they were snapped up in a couple of hours.

Damn it. I set aside money a month ago.

I know this isn't possible but can GEC now give me a steel that is stainless but still gets a patina. Now that would be impressive I could have it age well but never worry about rust or pitting.

To me, patina is just oxidation. There's nothing romantic about it. But I gather a lot of forum members really like patina. If 1095 was stainless, I'd still like it. I like 1095 for other reasons.

D2 might interest you. It will patina. It will also rust but it's more resistant than 1095. Even stainless steel can rust. It stains less. It's not stain proof.

Looks like the #74s are close! I just paid for my burnt orange bone version.

I love the way the sweep of the jigged lines in this bone matches the curve of the handle, and I can't wait to see what the "backwards #47" is like in person. :)

Got my notification also burnt orange #74. Did not think I was actually going to get one since I reserved pretty late.
My tortoise shell #15 just showed up today. I have been on a bit of a buying binge lately with GEC's...Viper, Esky Zulu, Talon, Boy's knife, and now Mustang. It all started with the Beer Scout!

D2 is exactly what I was thinking of when I read his post. It'll patina, but not too much. It takes a nice, somber grey color when it does. It'll resist active oxidation through some pretty rough conditions. And it's tougher than a brick outhouse when heat-treated properly.

Patina in my view is personalization. I didn't feel like my big #75 was "mine" until it started to take on some color. My Opis, my stockman, my EDC Barlows, I can recognize nearly all of them by the patina on the blades alone. It's character. The knife is telling a story, and it's a story I've shared with it.

Not everything has to be shiny to have value, even if it's only sentimental.

I'm over the moon about this knife. :)

Fit and finish are just superb across the board. At 1.6 oz. it's feather-light, and at 3/8" thick it's the same thickness as my Case Peanut; the size and shape of the frame combine to make that a perfect width for me.

It's my first knife with acrylic handles, and I love the tortoise shell. It's full of depth and complexity, and it's delightfully smooth to the touch.

Looks great Dadpool!

The tortoise shell that I received was the best of all the stainless knives in my lot so far. Absolutely no light shines through the spring/scales/covers. Just about as perfect as a GEC can be!

Very nice Dadpool, I waited a tad bit to long and the tortoise was gone:grumpy: I love the illustrations it's sitting on as well:thumbup:
