Lets talk GEC!

I think the fix is just use it and never look at the blade centering again haha..that stuff doesnt bother me anyways as long as its tight and not rubbing anywhere

I agree, although it is an interesting phenomenon. How much temperature difference are we talking about between morning and afternoon? Does micarta expand and contract enough to bend the liners a little bit? My guess is either that or there's some dried oil or wax in the pivot that pushes the blade to center when it's cool, and softens up later in the day allowing the blade to move over. Personally, I'd just watch and unless it gets worse it wouldn't bother me. YMMV.

Just guessing, but I would think around 70 degrees when its cool. And then in the upper 80s to 90 when its warmed up in my pocket. Ive never left it in the sun to get really hot yet.

I haven't 'super flushed' the joints yet, but the spring and pivot is oiled pretty well.

You just need to flip the knife in your pocket. Clearly one side of it warms up more than the other while you are carrying it and it is working like a bi-metallic strip. Heat it evenly on both sides and the issue will go away. Carry an egg timer with you and just flip it every three minutes.

LOL. I actually have flipped it in my pocket a few times in case my jeans were pushing the blade to the 'leaning side'.

Ill try and get pics just so i have PROOF that im not insane. :p

There's a reason we don't see purple knives much. It's probably one of the most polarizing colors and I doubt most men like purple knives. Apparently purple used to be one of the most difficult colors to find in nature and it took a lot of work to get enough raw mineral to dye an article of clothing, which is why it was reserved for royalty. Personally, I like the color and I like to buy interesting knives. This one fits the interesting requirement pretty well! I'm glad GEC takes chances and makes knives that have the potential to be wildly unpopular.

I actually like the dark purple of yours Steve. I also like the character mark to the lower right side of the shield in the picture. That makes it like there is no other one just like it. Right now I have 2 of the Purple ones and am about to order another one. I will gift 2 of them at Christmas to 2 family members who have expressed a desire to own one. IMO they are a much nicer looking knife in the hand than in a picture. Have you held your's in the shade and then moved to the sun and observed the change in appearance ???

Thanks Harry. I agree, they are much nicer in hand. It's hard to capture the texture with a photo. Dog Bone was actually a good name I think. I'm sure the recipients of your gifts will love them!

They do change a bit between sun and shade. Here's a pic of the pile side which shows a bit of the raw bone texture.

I bought two of those purple (violet) knives too. The pioneer bone has a terrific quality to it. The more imperfections in the bone, the more interesting the knife. Mine are a little lighter in color, but are still very nice knives. Barry has one on his site that is gorgeous. I plan to give one to my wife's brother, and want to keep one for myself.

I agree with you Meako , but I now have 2 on hand and 1 in the mail . I did not like the first one , but did the second one , and 2 family members have asked for them for Christmas . Go figure !!!
I wish that they had had more of a red tint in them .

Harry

Correction of Meako's name !!! My apologies Sir !!!

That's the only thing that held me back from buying one. Now if it had been a midnight violet, I would have broken a finger from pressing "Add to cart" so fast.

Well, I wouldn't chew on it myself. :D

I actually like the color but it's not one I see myself carrying. I mainly just wanted a purple knife in my collection.

Harry-its Jon -Duncan is Campbellclanman:)
Please don't ever mistake me for a kiwi ever again.....:p:D
I'm thinking it could be a clever ruse to get new customers on board the trad knife train and fairplay to that -I hope it works.
I love GEC.
I think a dark blue /royal bluey colour would be more classy-
The ruby red 72 from (off hand 2008?) is a gem and IMO would sell better with a wider appeal to people.
Its all a matter of opinion and taste I guess. The violet just strays into a non trad no mans land for me-but- the same could be said for a lot of the bright new colours that I doubt were used 60-70-80 years ago on pocketknives. Which prompts the question -has anyone got something that old and that colourful?

I remember a few years ago suggesting that the forum knife be a "purple ramshorn country cousin" -that of course was a fatuous and puerile attempt at humour-but I bet more than one person raised their eyebrows and nodded approvingly:D

I'm gunna go ahead and name it "french kate syndrome"-

Jon

I mainly just wanted a purple knife in my collection. -I understand that completely.

Now if it had been a midnight violet,-my finger would have pressed through the keyboard into the timber of the desk and got stuck:thumbup:

All I need now is for one of our venerable elders to tell me that violet was indeed the original and only colour you could get back then-
