Lets talk GEC!

When I read mikes post above the first thing I thought was the ladyleg knife . I heard here on BF that it was a slow mover, then Gec turned around and did another run . The 16 canoe was a slow seller too

Man, this run of 74s seems to have caused some unrest. I personally thought several of them looked great, including the jigged bone ApostleP SFO. My favorite was the Ebony Tidioute, I'm really liking the simplicity of the ebony tidioutes, but I already have two 74s (the past two Rendezvous knives) so I haven't purchased one yet.

My issue is that I like and want some patterns that might not be very popular. I would love a run of 22s, 33s, 09s, 06s, 81s, 82s, 53/54s etc. I regret selling my ebony 22 and 33.

Yup, that is my list also, except substitute 66/68 for 53/54. Also add 25 drop point and clips.

Oh yeah, 25s for sure. I can't believe I didn't pick up one of the ebony 25s on the last run.

I'd have to agree with you, I think the Ebony is the best of this run (although I am partial to Ebony in general). I liked the corset shield on Rob's Ebony SFO a little more, but I'm really happy with this one.

Question in general to the porch members... have there been any sightings of any of the new GEC fixed blades at any of the dealers? I would like to pick one up. I have a note into Mike at CK but haven't heard back anything yet.

A few pages back, Mike mentioned that GEC was waiting for the sheaths. He then responded later saying that they had the sheaths and were going to ship them out "between runs". I check CK 4 to 5 times a day to see if they have hit shelves yet, but they haven't made it there yet. I was hoping to pick one up a couple of weeks ago, but as they say, patience is a virtue. Or something. I don't know. I'm not very patient. :D

I've been wondering about this also, but thought I just missed them. Anybody know where I could see what all will be in the run?

I missed that Mike had said that... I'm excited for one!

Hi Mike. We appreciate you taking the time to help us understand how that all works.

Question for you. Could you list for us the models you think GEC will not produce again due to them not being popular previously?

There are some models that I am waiting to be produced again. If those models won't be, I will have to increase my tolerance for paying secondary market prices.

Again, that's in advance for taking the time to answer our questions.

Not a chance I am walking out on that limb. As sure as I say something is doubtful, Bill will put it on the schedule -- that's just the way he rolls !! ;>

Some variations are in transit to me...

How about we guess and you just blink once for "they'll try that one again," or twice for "buy it now if you want it, 'cause there's no chance they're ever making that again."

I'll start. 63 fishtail/mako?

16, 64, 81 would all surprise me if they ran again in the same configuration as they did before.
12, 26, 28, 33, 36, 57, 63, 65, 66, 68, 89, 98 were all slow but found admirers eventually.
But they could change the config just a bit and they could any one of them be the rave.

IMO the #81 stockman is the finest production stockman ever made. If I'm wrong, I would like to know what is better because I have money ready to buy it.

I'm surprised to see 81 on the list too. I don't own one, but have been keeping an eye out.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. No other stockman comes close. I have the osage orange, and it is probably my favorite knife period. Others are prettier, but none more useful, than the 81. I would love to see GEC offer another run of this great knife.

I'm really hoping for a run of 81 big clip stockmans as well. My tweak would be a wharnie in place if the sheepfoot so it rides lower like the 81s. I would definitely be in for a couple in Northfield trim.

This knife is simply gorgeous. I think I need one. ;)

Stockman, ok. Muskrat, dud. But there are many patterns that individuals feel strongly about but did not correlate to brisk demand at the time.
