Lets talk GEC!

The first indication of the Calf Pen came out right around the beginning of April. In fact many folks thought it was an April fool's joke by GEC due to such an unorthodox array of hardware on this one. I'm not sure if folks' opinions will change once we see more production photos, but it seemed the reactions went from "interesting" to "barf" to "awesome".

Speaking for myself, I'm in the "interesting" category, and am looking forward to see how it looks in real photos and not just the moc ups.
Yeah, I don't know why I have it in my mind that it is small as in small like under 3 in. Have they made this before?

If they are both liner locks, I might have to buy one of these things...
I have no idea. I was just looking at the picture and the description said wharncliffe main with liner lock, one arm razor secondary. And of course we cannot forget the screwdriver on the pivot.

It's nice that GEC is being creative but there are a lot of pokie parts that look like they'll tear up pockets. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/87/14/43/8714432b0f31868175a6516f57956430.jpg

Is the nail nick on the Chris Reeve Mnandi trademarked or patented? Is Chris Reeve the only company using it? Are they the first? I don't know. It doesn't seem unique enough for intellectual property rights. But I'm surprised that more companies aren't using the same principle. It seems like a good way to make a traditional knife one hand opening while maintaining the look of a regular pull. I wonder how well it would work with a GEC slipjoint. ...Might also be something for @knifeswapper to consider for the Euro barlow.

Some more pics up...

Oh no. I'm starting to like it. Crap.
My sentiments exactly. I was hoping to get my Churchill, then take a break until the #78s come out.

Has anyone heard the price point of these yet? I'm guessing around $85 but there's nothing really to compare it to.

Those sharp aspects alarm me too, you'd need to wrap it up in cloth before putting it in your pocket & unhappily, I don't think most of us would look better in the trendy ripped shorts or jeans craze of the moment:eek: Well, you never know....:D

The Chris Reeve nail nick could be useful, but isn't it a kind of variant of the Scagel stamped out nick? Might work well it's true but I suppose the blade is thick? Couldn't ally that to a GEC uber spring either:eek:

I'm still firmly in the Barf Camp I'm afraid gents.:D

Yes. When I first started collecting I passed on several liner locks because I thought they were silly on a traditional slipjoint. But the longer that I have been at this hobby, the more I have grown to love liner locks and regret passing on the ones I did.

I have I have said it before, but I would really love to see Great Eastern Cutlery produce a harness jack with a liner lock on the punch.

Yah. It may work best on a knife with modern construction. Perhaps better suited for Lion Steel.
