Lets talk GEC!

There was a blue jigged bone #14 last year (may have been an SFO?), but if you were looking for blue, it was a bit of a disappointment. :D

Reminds me of the “black water jig bone” GEC did on the 63 Fish Tail a few years ago. Only the blue on those lightened up near bolsters. I always liked the look of it.

You just about have to hold a flashlight up against the bone to see the blue in that #14. :D

On the tang stamp issue.....Rumor has it there may be some legal "flack" over someone else operating as "Titusville Iron Works" and GEC chose to change rather than challenge the issue in court.
Take care,
Rick

A contest for a suitable name to replace "Titusville Iron Works" would be fun. Submissions, a few rounds of voting, lots of talk with sound reasoning or no logical reasoning whatsoever. A group effort everyone can feel good about participating in.

I misunderstood. Sorry. Yes it's decided. I just liked the old name so much and CKC didn't really feel great to me is all. Not clear to the customer.

Since it appears that GEC has settled on 'CKC' the winner gets to pay for all the new tooling, downtime, wages, and lost sales.

A joke, but also true.

That's rude actually, but I get your point. Everyone happy with CKC. Okay.

I think it's good to sometimes remind ourselves here on the forums that GEC is a private company and shouldn't be expected or asked to poll the users of a forum for a trademark or any business decision like that. Would it be a fun idea? Definitely. Would it make the people who are already sure to continue buying GEC knives feel good? Probably. Would it bring in new customers and sales? I don't know, but I doubt it.

I don't love "Carbon KEEPS Cutting". I don't think it's an anachronism, as using stamps and branding to tout the product's quality was definitely widespread. However, I do think it's a bit over nostalgic being that 1095 just isn't that high in edge retention, even amongst other carbon steels. I don't hate it either though because it doesn't matter much to me what the stamp says. I did like the historical nod to the previous occupant in Titusville Iron Works, but I understand if it's a legal thing.

Cyclops, TIW, Squirrel logo? All gone. Bad side to this, I liked them. Good side, collectability.

I have heard many times the only thing predictable about GEC is unpredictability. GEC's core market centers around the collector. That is predictable.

All this anxiety over a tang stamp change?!? Yoy.
never thought i'd ever reply to my own comment.

If GEC were smart, they'd change it back to TIW and all these "limited run" ckc stamps would become instant collector grails.

Not surprised you would reply back to your own comment.

I am surprised you are adding to the discussion about the change in a tang stamp. o_O

Is Cyclops Steel Works gone too? I can understand TIW being discontinued if there was a trademark infringement issue but I'm not crazy about CKC - how about just stamping the tang with "1095"? But I did think that Titusville Iron Works was a cool addition.

I've not heard that "Cyclops" is gone also but it seems my memory is telling me they may be under the same "umbrella"? If this is the case then I guess it is gone. As few stainless knives as GEC produces it may take a while before we know for certain.
Take care all,
Rick

I agree with this; if TIW/CSW are being discontinued I would prefer a "1095" stamp to the "CKC" one.

Hey, I'm thinking about adding a opening notch to my #13 whip, as I can't pinch it open anymore since regrinding the kick. So I quickly drew it up to visualize it.
What to you guys think? Do you think it'll affect the ergos negatively?

Thought I'd post this here, rather than to open a new thread sorry if it's incorrect.
