Lets talk GEC!

Remember, I did not break my knife. It was sent to me this way as a first quality. All I expected was for them to look at it to see what could or could not be done. Good customer service is protection for that day when the knife craze dies down or new competition comes along. Our individual stories will not matter then, it will be the cumulative affect
Word of mouth advertising is more important now than ever, since we all now have have wider influence through our individual stories. Customer service experiences should not be individual stories, if a Brand's name is going to have a meaning that is equated to quality. If the word quality still has any meaning at all, it is consistency. Do it right the first time. If a mistake is made prior to shipment, make it right--if the customer gives you the chance to do so. A satisfied customer is only product that any non-mass production company should really strive to produce.

I like them  At least my whorly Bocote..

If I were to find the 'right' Stag I'd snap that up too :D

That said, it might've liked better with a full size Clip as I think Turkish Clips are better suited to multi blade patterns rather than as a single.

I'd also like to see GEC make this as a Penknife pattern with Clip/ Pen , Spear/Small Clip and yes, how about some stainless efforts??
;)

That is a particularly striking example Will. That to me would be a great Sunday go to meeting knife...if the blade were stainless.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm excited that GEC seems to be adding canvas micarta into more regular production runs.

They do indeed call it Jigged Mustard Bone. I posited earlier that I might like the knife once more progress was made and I think I am leaning towards that partly because the shield looks particularly amazing.

I had told myself that I would pass on this run of 56s, as they were too similar to my spear point 55 (except for the liner lock, of course). But this yellow jigged Tidioute might make me change my mind, especially with that shield!

Beautiful Ratbert!!

Are the NF 56s gonna have the nick in the swedge or long pull?
The Northfields usually have a long pull. You never know though, and I have not seen it specified anywhere.

Anyone know if the new 56 comes in a singel blade config?
Yes, single spear blade.

Ratbert,
That, in my opinion, is a beautiful knife. If I thought the Northfield verision of this run would be that nice I would have to have at least one each of the single and 2-blade versions.
Take care,
Rick

I do think it looks a lot better with the shield on it. I'm getting excited. I'm on standby for one of these.

I think these Pheasant Feather acrylic versions are going to look really sharp once they are polished up.

Guys, I am curious as to why is there no love for the single blade 38?

c9FNbAg.jpg

It has a sunken joint, comes in a wide variety of covers, features a slinky dogleg frame, a popular Turkish clip blade, and a smooth cam action without the nail breaker spring. It strikes me as odd because if GEC had made it as a half-whittler or full whittler, they would all have been snapped up by now. What is it about the single blade model that leaves most dogleg fans cold?

I love how they feel in the hand and especially how they look closed. When open though they just look awkward to me with that odd, hump in the middle. Sold my Beaver badged 38 just for this reason.

I think the 38 doesn't grab me for the same reason that I couldn't get into the 18s: they're different from the Peanut. I know that they aren't Peanuts, but I have such an affinity for and daily carry a Peanut that when a serpentine lands in my hand that isn't configured the same way as a Peanut, it's noticeable to a fault. When holding an opened Peanut, the spine rises into the palm and the butt is fatter. The 38 rises into the palm but narrows towards the butt, and even though the 18s widened at the butt, they curved away from the palm.

I am in for a 2 Blade Natural Micarta #56 for sure but those Pheasant Feather Acrylic ones are growing on me, so I might grab one of those too.

Normally I am a 1 Blade guy but I really like the extra heft and thickness of 2 Blade versions for patterns 3.5" and less especially.

I know I am in the minority for this opinion but I also love having the nail nick for the pen blade on the opposing side of the main blade. Being left-handed makes the nail nick for the pen blade on the correct side for me in that configuration. Main reason I skipped getting even a single #78 in 2 Blade was due to the nail nicks for the main and secondary being on the same side.

I just re-read it. I think that’s right by the way the wrote it. The other two blade ones say two blade and then what the blades are.

77 Barlows on the horizon? Excellent news! And the cover options are stellar, I love the blood red sawcut bone on my #25, it would be amazing to be able to get a big brother to match. I am curious what the wood choice will be...

I think the shield choices on the Bird Dogs are stellar. Federal shield on the Northfield bone and the bomb shield on the Tidioute, simply fantastic. I am looking forward to seeing what the bone color will be for the Northfield version.
