Lets talk GEC!

Yeah, Mardi Gras for sure. It's the mountain man behind the flag that has my mind working.

I’m really liking the Mardi Gras acrylic. It might be because it reminds me of all the terrible hard candy my grandma had in candy dishes growing up. Lol

I own zero acrylic covered knives, but the mardi gras is the first time Ive considered it. It just looks so obnoxious that its cool:thumbsup:

So I got my 56 Bird Dog in. Besides being slathered in oil, it is excellent. All surfaces meet up perfectly. I can't feel any transitions. After handling a giraffe Fayette Jack, this 56 is easily at the same level of quality. The main blade is easy to open with that huge nail nick. The pen is stiffer and will hopefully break in. I do prefer a half stop, and this 2 blade version is noticeably heavy, but I'm very impressed.

"I don't normally check lock up or notice it at all when I use any of the models mentioned. I do notice some GEC are difficult to un-lock, especially the ones that lock up tight, but I've also seen the same thing on Buck models."

I wasn't talking about Buck knives or any other branded knives - just GEC and in my experience, GEC puts out too many lockback knives that are difficult to unlock or release. After working the spring at the release notch, it becomes easier to release the lock. Although this could be considered a minor point by some, it is irritating to some and is a malady that all to often happens on GEC lockback knives.

Thanks for your thoughts on this Jack.

I have 2 #72 lockbacks, a #42 lockback, and 3 Mudbugs. I must have gotten lucky, as none of them have been hard to release at all. Usually a tiny bit of vertical blade play, but nothing out of the ordinary.

The Mudbug really is a fine knife. If I'm carrying a locking folder while outdoors, it's almost always a Mudbug. I have some very nice Buck lockbacks, but the Mudbug is soooooooooooo much lighter in weight. You actually forget that you're carrying it, unlike the massive Buck 110.

Here's my Mudbug from last year's run. I think it's from the only run ever done in canvas micarta.

I can’t seem to find the single blade micarta dogleg Jack anywhere in stock, have they all sold out already or have they not yet been released for sale?

I really love this 56 in Mardi Gras! The shield, matchstrike pull, and acrylic really come together for me, and the special blade etch is a nice touch too.

I regretted not getting the 63 Templar in Mardi Gras when it was too late, hopefully I will get a crack at one of these.
