Lets talk GEC!

I've heard or read somewhere that Acrylic and/or Delrin can be brought back to life with very fine grit sandpaper and some compound or some such thing. I'm sure one or other of the Tinkerers here will help me out on this.

A slow (1800rpm) buffing wheel with some white compound will make them shine like a new penny. Faster (3600rpm) will burn most composites even with a good compound.

I had been asked that a few day ago and called the factory to confirm. Response was affirmative and I updated my Early Reserve schedule.

#21 Farm & Field Bull Buster – Drop Point blade – 4 5/8” long closed - O1 Steel
#21 F/F Orange Delrin
#21 F/F Black Delrin
#21 F/F Nifebrite Acrylic
#21 F/F OD Green Linen Micarta
#21 F/F Maroon Linen Micarta

I reserved a #21 with Maroon covers but I'd just as soon as see the name Bull Nose carried over to these knives.

Why not "Nefertiti" instead of going the long way around with Busticon 5000.

I don't have a preference - just said; I'd just as soon as. It doesn't really matter what they're called as they are great knives.

Speechless!

Hi Brian, I know this one is an SFO. Who's selling it?

Never mind.....found it on GEC's website......Bruno

Pretty excited to have these. I really like the #66 Calf Roper slim and it's the only model so far where I like every cover made in the Northfield line. I'm not a big fan of traditionally colored bone like brown jigged bone or natural smooth bone, but I like both of the bone choices here. The #66 is also my only mammoth ivory model (that's what got me started with these).

This looks like a good thread for this question...

Who is Charlie, and what the heck is a Charlow? Why does everyone want one, and where do people find them?

Charlie Campagna, aka Waynorth. He's somewhat popular around here :) Has worked with a number of the production companies to bring back old patterns that haven't been produced in a while. A Charlow is one such knife. It is a GEC made special factory order SFO barlow on the #15 frame. Charlie, Barlow, Charlow :) The GEC #15s have been very popular with many many runs being made (for GEC) with the barlows pretty much all being SFOs. Barlows differ than regular jack knives in that they have an elongated front bolster and are usually bareheaded. Here's a link with some of the #15s GEC has made so far. http://greateasterncutlery.net/blog/patterns/15-huckleberry-boys-knife/ Scroll down to the bottom to see the barlows. Being an SFO, they were pretty much only available from Charlie but I believe things are changing to make them available through GEC's distributors. They tend to sell out quickly.

Why not a pic... Here are 2 Charlows and 2 GEC Boys Knives

Charlie, who may or may not offer his full name here, is also known as "waynorth" on this forum.
He is a great guy, who loves knives and sells knives and works with Great Eastern Cutlery creating an Awesomeness that is known as SFO's or "Special Factory Orders".
One of his most famous accomplishments is the "Tom's Choice Barlow" ... marked TC on the bolster, which is, to honor him, better known as "The Charlow"!

Hope that helps!

Edit: Too slow, sorry :( And Trand, evil you ... you spoilered! :p Gotta keep the mystery! :D

Okay, so Charlie AKA Waynorth commissions the runs and sells them directly? And it looks like the main different is the long bolster?

Thanks for the info guys, now I won't wonder so much (only a little) when I see a long-bolstered 15 pic followed by multiple replies in the vein of "ooooh" or "NICE CHARLOW!!"

Clip points are available as of . . . NOW!

I dig them a lot, though 4" is too much for pocket carry for me. YMMV.

Hmm... really 4"? All the others based on the #48 frame are 3 7/8"... I'm wondering what color the camel bone will be.

Says 4" on the KSF write-up, could be inaccurate. It would make sense if it were the same length as all the other 48s, wouldn't it?
