Lets talk GEC!

Can't wait to see the new run of Vipers, esp. the grizzly bone. But after tracking down a blackwood Charlow and failing to resist a pre-2000 Marbles in the last two days, I need to put the brakes on.

Oh come on, you know if you get a grizzly bone Viper then you will never need or want another knife ever again. It happens to me all the time.

Is it known if the #48 Northwoods will be offered with a single blade?

Can someone with a #66 slim take a picture comparing the thickness of the blades to a #15? I usually like knives with a single blade, but that slim clip point is tempting.

#15 Diamond Harness Jack, #66 Calf Roper slim, #15 TC Barlow sheepfoot

Rec'd some of the new Dixie Stock Knife patterns in and thought you'd like to check it out. Here it is compared to the 81:

Comparison shot including the Schrade 8OT, Schrade 881Y, Tidioute 81, Case 6392, and Case 6375:

The maroon linen micarta is very smooth and velvety in the hand and pocket, as well as being beautiful and durable. The muskrat/drop point/wharncliffe blade selection is a pointy improvement over the normal clip/spey/sheepfoot, IMO. If you like large stock knives, you'll love the 82.

Forgot to add that the pull on these is a very comfortable 5-6, similar to my old SAK.

No half stops Trand, typical cam action.

Danged if that Maroon Linen Micarta didn't find its way into my pocket! Feels real good in there.

Thank you for the pictures Barry. It's a tempting knife, even though it doesn't have half stops.

Do other stockmen have half-stops? I can't bring any to mind; all that I can recall have the rounded tang. Traditional, ya know. :)

I have a Case 6232 Jack that has half stops, but I don't have a 6332 stockman to check. Maybe somebody can chime in?

Wow - that's a beauty, Barry.

Of course, that acrylic #81 ain't bad either....

Bruce, it seems like the Red River is less popular than it deserves to be! Nice material. The maroon linen micarta 82 would be a nice match with a Barkie in the same handle material, I'm thinkin'.:pride:

Oh yeah...I'd be all over that. I've been having similar thoughts about finding a match for my red linen Bull Nose...but this is the kind of thinking that tends to get me in trouble. :D

The 6332 is one of the few stockmen with half-stops (regrettably.)

The Dixie looks to be a fine knife. Some really decent handle options, thanks to Barry for showing the superb Burgundy. The Osage looks tempting too...I like the blade assortment, the increasing use of cut-outs by GEC and the brushed finish on the Tidioutes.

Very tempted indeed.

But no, can't really afford one just now but the main stumbling-block is its size. Just too big for my uses and it would end up as a display knife on the desk or somewhere, it needs work I reckon. Looking forward to user reports though, you never know, it's been known:D

I used to feel the same way about 4 inch folders; I liked the big handle, but the knife felt too big fer my FRP. Then I discovered (thru a clever member of another forum) that if you take a couple stitches in your pocket about one inch in and 1 1/2 inches up from the bottom corner, a large knife will sit upright in the space created and becomes scarcely noticeable to carry. A knife will just naturally drop vertically right in the spot when you pocket it, and as a bonus, a large knife won't wear a hole in yer jeans anymore! Plus, I find I get more dates! (not really)

TRY IT YOU'LL LIKE IT !!!!
