Lets talk GEC!

No kidding!!

A question for you GEC dealers, anyone know whether they will use the Seas Glass Acrylic or Turquoise Acrylic on any more runs or knives? I ran across these two and love how they look. Are the prices substantially higher for these handle materials, any chance we'd see these on some patterns they haven't been on before?

I have not heard anyone say they would never use them again. But they are funny about using the acrylics that did the best the last time they produced it.

Since acrylics have been brought up I have a question. Does it have depth, or is it just the top layer you can see?

Am I mistaken or are acrylics a substitute for a material that was used before? I can't remember the name of that material, but it has been mention to "gas out".

You may be thinking of celluloid, which was very heat sensitive (flammable actually) and would shrink with age. Because of the extreme flammability and its other drawbacks, industrial use has all but disappeared. Acrylic is more durable & safer.

Thanks Mike, i guess that means there's chance at least:D Would love to see one of them on a Bullnose but I know that will probably never happen. It would be great to see them show up on a Viper or Improved Trapper though, they seem like better candidates. Just wishful thinking!

Lava acrylic will be offered on the next run of Vipers next week.

What GEC would you guys really like to see? Here's my wish list...

47 sheepfoot Hayn Helper in micarta
74 with single wharncliffe blade

...although I think the 74 would throw me off since it's basically a reversed 47 frame (are the reversed pattern numbers coincidental?).

How about a #71 with a sheepsfoot in micarta? That's the work knife I'm looking for.

My tomato acrylic looks iridescent orange if you look at it from certain angles, while my phesant feather acrylic looks layered.

The stag cut bone Vipers are making an appearance on the GEC home page. I didn't see these on the production schedule - is this replacing the grizzly cut bone or will GEC be making both?

Looks like they may have changed the jigging and the name; I doubt you will see both.

This cracked marble has debth. The gold ( aka brass) color you see is the liner seen through a clear piece of acrylic.

It depends on the acrylic; some are colored throughout and others, like the 'coffeehouse' for example, are clear (in this case clear red) with the bottom layer colored. The 'looking glass' acrylics are another example of a clear layer over a thin veneer, in this example.

Interesting ax. I love that 73/23 style handle but I don't know how well it would work with a head-heavy blade. I'd like to see and hear more about it for sure!

I hope the Rendezvous is going well. I'm pretty excited to hear from Bob when he makes it back.
