Lets talk GEC!

Drop the punch on the 29 and we have our "dream knife" that was attempted twice as a forum knife, but didn't really hit the mark.
I feel like we'll see single and two blade variants on this frame in time. Consider the #38. It was done in a 3-blade, a couple different 2-blades and, most recently, in a single. Why not jump on, and appreciate, a 3-blade model when it's announced? The "lesser" variants will be along in time. I don't mean to doubt someone if they know for sure, but I think we're still not certain it will be a 3-spring. But....even if it is...I'm keen, and variations with fewer blades will come.

Absolutely. Nearly identical length, nearly identical lines aside from a slightly more bulbous bolster.

Its that bulbous bolster that troubles me. It makes the main blade very hard to use, as it just gets in the way. The 38 special is an example of this.

I actually loved they way the #38 felt in hand. It was the absolutely anemic action and practically zero snap that I couldn't get over.

My wife and I were at the factory last month. Spoke to Bill about the 29 and expressed how excited I was for it.

I suppose he has the right to change his mind, but as of mid-November, the plan was to make the 29 a three spring knife.

I certainly hope he exercises that right. That much thickness on a relatively small knife makes for a stubby and not pleasing to use package, IMHO

I felt the same way at first (and would still prefer a 2 spring or split spring) but it was pointed out to me by a knowledgeable member here that the Winchester 3904 is very similar to the proposed 29, and has three springs....it really doesn't look that bad.

The 78 3 spring and the 56 3 spring are both fine knives and carry better than you’d think. If the extra ounce is killing you, you need more time at the gym and less time on the forums! :D

In all seriousness, I am holding out hope for a splitback version. Big time!

Those who are excited about the 06 pemberton really need to try one in hand - its not for everyone.

I can't say that I am particularly excited for the Pemberton. It looks super small.... However, I have had some success in being able to try a knife from each of GEC's releases (beginning in early 2017) since I've become active on this forum. Some patterns I have really taken to, others, not so much. I plan on at least getting 1 of the #06s, maybe 2. If nothing else, they will be knives that I stow away for a rainy day.

I will likely continue to acquire at least one example from each of GECs production runs for the foreseeable future. It is a great way for me to experience new things and add to my growing collection (I'm not a big seller).

Absolutely - I do the same. Happily I find there are more hits than there are misses.

the reason I posted that comment is to try and (gently) indicate what I have learnt from those buying experiences.

3 spring is a pass for me. It's the bulk, I already carry to much stuff.

I would love to see a half whittler though.

Well, that's pretty darn authoritative. I enjoy my 3-spring #79, though. I'm exited for the #29 still the same. But don't get me wrong, I'll be buying a 2-blade variant, too, down the line when they come out with it.

oh... A three spring?
I take everything back, I'm out. I do not want a three spring knife. I have to force myself just to carry knives with two springs.

I'm hoping they'll just do a 2 spring clip/sheep at the same time as the 3 bladers...similar to what they're doing with the 82s right now.

If so, I'd be in for both as well.

Honestly, I am rather thrilled that GEC is still working towards trying new things out and offering new patterns. Like everyone, I certainly have developed my own preferences and I expect that those will continue to evolve over time. Of the 3 new patterns that they have given us a peek at, I am most interested in the #86 but I will certainly be trying out the #29 and #97 as well.

I've only tried out one GEC pattern so far that I had a rather immediate dislike for once I got it in hand. I knew that we were not destined to be friends and that one was the #46. Had the pulls been friendlier, I might have kept it a bit longer but I knew almost instantly that it was a knife that would not get any use from me.

If I were to make some requests, I'd love to see another run of #92s, #09s, #47s (yes please!), #68s, and #79s. (Yeah, my list is a bit long....)

The 06 is a great little knife, right around Beagle or Peanut size. I don't carry mine but do carry Beagles occasionally and quite enjoy them. I find this size to punch out of its weight class. Not too small to use or be useful imo. My glove size is xl-xxl.

The Pemberton is a small knife . IMHO it is too small to be thought of as an EDC but it is a great little Sunday carry . I do have one and it is one of my favorite ones to have and it is after all a Small Coke Bottle . I usually carry the Pemberton and an 18 together :
