Lets talk GEC!

You eat raccoon?

No, buy there was a time when the fur was worth $30-45. Those days are long gone.

I've used this method a few times myself...to close the knife. :p;):D

I guess now I have to make a video on how to close a knife.... amateur!

That becomes a real problem when the bull belongs to your neighbor ...

His calf crop falls off dramatically; but your fences don't need mended as much...

You are so right about the raccoon hides back in the late 70’s early 80’s the were $30.00 to $45.00 I had a kennel of black & tans and hunted them 4 nights a week sold the hides to a furrier and made raccoon stew for the club dinners

Has anyone else connected the dots here? I bet Knifeswapper’s GEC collection is bigger than GEC’s. I’m just left wondering how much all those bull parts went for.

...I have castrated countless bulls, skinned countless raccoons, peeled countless apples...

I know I keep showing the same few knives over and over, but this #668214 calf roper slim comes very close.

I bought it just because I found an OK deal on local market, but boy am I surprised how much I like it! The classiest looking and feeling knife I own. GEC or not.
Stunning. I love it.

Anyone know how GEC is progressing with the 77s? They don't seem to post many photos of SFOs and they're also not on the production schedule.

I would take a guess that GEC is preparing knives for the Rendezvous and continuing on the 29’s. We will see pics of the 77’s in the progress pics. I’m guessing we won’t see more pics until late August or early September.

Is it just going to be an SFO run?

knifeswapper knifeswapper when the options seem almost limitless for ordering SFO’s, how do you decide? I dream of the opportunity to select my own SFO... which will remain a dream until I come into a lot of money.

Or does Mr. Howard offer advice or available materials?

The 77 Northfield Barlow has always been an SFO that only Mike Latham sells on his site. I believe him and Bill at GEC have a gentlemen’s agreement on this matter similar to Charlie Champagne who does the TC Barlow on the 15 frame. Only difference with Charlie is that his SFO goes to his specified dealers for sale to the public but he makes all the design decisions on the knife materials with GEC.

Mike and Charlie have to work with GEC on blade choice and cover material choice. They pic from cover material GEC will work with or have and in Mike’s case GEC has made covers out of material that Mike has supplied. Example, the maple wood and buffalo bone on the last run of SFO 85’s was all sourced by Mike and supplied to GEC

I hope this provides some answers to your questions.

It is like when I was dating my wife... "Where do you want to eat?"; "I don't care". "Where do you want to eat?"; "I don't care". "OK, we'll eat chinese food"; "Ooh no, I don't want chinese food".

Bill doesn't really limit you when coming up with options - he just says "NO!" once you do mention them.

I'm not sure money would get you an SFO these days - unless it was so much money nobody could afford to buy one.

So you're saying its possible then! ;)

I find it refreshing to hear I’m not the only one who had that dating experience with their Mrs.

That’s too bad he declines ideas, but then again Mr. Howard probably knows something the rest of us don’t. I will say that I think the 77 Barlow’s of yours have been gorgeous- kudos on the arrangement.

Fox79 Fox79 impressive that you knew all that. I must not be the only one who wonders how the magic happens.

If I think critically about it, I doubt there’d be a group buy in I could conjure up that would offer anything more amazing than what GEC is doing currently. I do want some kind of 3.5” frame (such as the 44), two blade jack with full sized, opposite nail nick, clip and Wharnecliffe blades, wood slabs such as a stabilized, hardened domestic walnut, cherry or mahogany and brass pins, bolsters, and liners.

You know- a knife that’s useful and would look ancient after a couple good months of service.

I can dream!

Eureka! GEC’s got some initial pictures of the #92’s up in “what’s happening”. They’ve got the bolsters stamped and assembled to the brass liners. I’m kind of surprised they started assembling those bad boys already. Think the #29’s are going out hot and heavy after the rendezvous? If I had a Eureka Jack in my hands by early September I’d be pretty pleased.

Edit: and I just found a picture of the heat treated spear mains! Very exciting!! Just look close at all the pics. You’ll see them in a box. Different spear shape than my 15, which is interesting; it’s more symmetrical.

and... those #92 spear points look like they are cut swedge with the long pulls... yet it says #92 Tidioute in the caption...

Mistake? Or for real?
