Lets talk GEC!

I like my stag 29 so maybe I should get a Texas Ranger before they are gone. The main blade on my 29 has a weak pull compared to the other two blades, almost too weak for me. I like a nice pull.

Oh my oh my... that mammoth Lincoln jack

Thanks...I stretched my limits to grab that one. Its my only Northwoods as I'm not a fan of their sabre ground blades other than when found on the clip points. I think on the non-clip point blades whether they are spear, Wharncliffe, or Bohncliffe the angles from the different grinds come together oddly, resulting in a chunky blade tip. I know that's sacrilege to some, just my opinion.

All of this talk of SFOs and such got me reflecting that I've long admired the M&G knives. I decided to add a few to the collection before they become harder to find.

I really, really love the jigging on the Yankee Whittler - it reminds me a bit of the jigging on one of Charlie's Lambsfoot knives. It's an instant favorite and I am rather upset that I didn't let myself enjoy these knives sooner. The jigged bone, classic etches, and Federal shields all add to some exceptional knives.

Siiiighhhhhh....once again, your pic has been an example of horrible enablement. You should be ashamed. FOR SHAME.

But seriously, I caved and picked up one of the yellow jigged bone Whittlers also.

Friends, there are only 3 M&G Yankee Whittlers left in stock. Get one now before they are gone forever!

Well one less now. I wasn’t expecting to buy a knife today, the Whittler isn’t something that resembles much in my collection either, but it’s different enough where I think I’d regret not trying at some point down the line.
Also, it appears they have some in cocobolo as well. Unless I’m misinterpreting something that’s oos.

I like the uniqueness of the Yankee whittlers, but I just can’t justify the thickness for the benefit of two full size curved mains and a pen blade. A wharnecliffe or sheepsfoot instead of either the clip or spear would have sold me on it. Beautiful execution, though; truly some of the best cover work I’ve seen out of GEC.

Are people offended by the Declaration of Independence?

This guy. ;) :D

Beautiful knives, Dylan! I’ve been tempted by some of their models before. I really like that Yankee Whittler, but the three blades/springs seems a bit excessive. :D

I’m a bit late to the party here. The SFO news is disappointing, but I’d wholeheartedly disagree with anyone who says GEC doesn’t make great and/or interesting knives in their standard runs. Some of my favorites are non-SFO knives.

Did someone ask for a non-SFO Barlow? ;)

I lost the quote, but someone said the regular #77 Yankee Jack was “boring” compared to the #77 Washington Jack SFOs. Really? I think this is one of the best looking knives GEC has ever made!

I hope the #33's are not a hint at another change - just two variations per pattern. More patterns - a fraction of the options.....

I agree, but to play devil's advocate, if they do end up with more patterns being produced more frequently but with fewer variants, isn't that still giving options, just of a different type?

Not to take anything at all from the wonderful #77 SFOs from Charlie, but I wholeheartedly agree with you Barrett! Whether in Northfield or Tidioute trim, the Yankee Jacks were definitely some of the most beautifull and classic looking Jacks ever made by GEC! But that’s just this old mans humble opinion! ;) :D

Got the AMKCA 2020 club knife and Shaner Sportsman's Club knife at the meeting yesterday:

They're both beautiful. Was able to get the same serial number on the Shaner as my other Shaner from last year, the only 2 so far. It looked like some of the AMKCAs had proud tips, but the one I got is really nice.

AND BILL PINNED THE BEAR SHIELD!!!!! :D:D:D

I brought up pinning the shields about 10 times in meetings and probably called Bill 3 times and talked to him in person about it at least twice.

I'm literally gonna write a letter thanking him and everyone at GEC.

THE BEAR SHIELD for me is fabulous.
This is my # 73 of 2007.:):thumbsup::thumbsup:

oh my word... those pictures... I’m going to need a second to collect myself.
*cough*
Gorgeous knives, uplifting post. What is the blade combo on this (presumably) #15 in antique yellow bone? Clip and... can’t figure the last one. Looks like she’s seen some use and it’s made her prettier.

Can you pop that one open?

Anyone else just feel the impulse to go buy more GEC’s?

I’m not tempted in the least to buy one of these Yankee knives, or even the upcoming 33s, as I’m a die hard single-blade guy. Like mrknife mrknife mrknife. :D I do enjoy seeing your pictures and reading your enthusiasm about them. :)

Jack that really doesn’t surprise me in the least that you would say that! I’ve already got plenty of the single blade #77’s my friend! With my Stag Jacks and Northfield Barlow’s I’m probably in better than average shape on single blades. ;) Stay safe my friend! Pam and I think about you often. :)

Funny enough, I only have four of those things now. More single blades cant hurt Ron, at least thats what I say about my collection! Likewise, y'all take care! its staying steady in new york now, its the rest of the country that seems to have rising numbers!

Only four! Unfortunately you’re right Jack. It seems like New York has finally stemmed the flow, but I’m sadly afraid you’re right about some of the other states. :(

If it worked like that - it would be alright. But they have been working for years to make more knives in each run so setup doesn't cost them so much time. My guess is production totals would be the same - just less variations. I am concerned that Bill is trying to solve the "scramble" issues by making no sfo's and large production runs of less variations. That would gain loyalty from those not nimble enough to score the short runs and lose loyalty from those that like the chase and also like to have several variations. Many folks just need one - others want a full collection for the grandkids. Please some; aggravate others.

Which one of Charlies #77's ?
