Let's talk Northwoods

This will be my first Northwoods when it arrives. I have the GEC 93 RAM so this will be its cousin I guess. secondary market prices suck by the way, lol. I just really like the Appaloosa bone. Not sure what my favorite Northwoods pattern is yet but this thread will definitely help.

Those look great, really like those and the sienna ones. Curious to know how the action compares with your 93…

I’ll let you know once it arrives, I also have two K’roo lambs that I think are based on the 93 and those are a little lighter pull than the Gec but they are both very close

Here is my first and only Northwoods. A Signal Jack which I understand is basically the GE 93 pattern (shown next to my GEC 93 Ram belowView attachment 2283105View attachment 2283107. I haven’t gone through all the pages in this thread or searched others but is there a helpful chart that shows the Northwood offerings and what GEC pattern they are. I assume all Northwoods have an equivalent GEC pattern correct? (other than when Queen made them of course).
I would really appreciate if there is such a chart somewhere if someone could link it or DM me.

That’s a great suggestion, Gus. I think I have a pic of all the Northwoods examples from GEC…let me see if I can add the pattern numbers to the pic. I’ll get to it…Stay tuned.

Speaking of Northwoods, I came across this large Toothpick in my storage locker, and I am embarrassed to say, I have forgotten when and where I acquired it!!!???
I know some serious NW collectors alight here, and I was hoping you good folks could answer some questions for me!!! Please!!!!????
1>Does it have a NW name?
2>Who made it??
3>When was it made!!
It makes me think of Dave Shirley, NW owner of some years ago!!!
I hope someone can help me here!!!???⁉️
Pics in the next post!!!

Charlie-
Your stag Northwoods large toothpick was named just that as shown in the picture from the Knife Magazine advertisement. I believe this was produced by Queen for Dave Shirley around 2007 which was a few years after he started the Northwoods brand in 2004. Its length is 5” closed and was made in stag, elephant ivory and Italian Jigged bone and maybe other covers as well. The blade steel is D2. I’m assuming that it’s made on the Queen #20 pattern frame which is the exact same size. There doesn’t seem to be any records available about the production numbers of these early Northwoods knives. I have also heard that Queen made parts were assembled in Gladstone, MI. Not sure if these were some of those rumored to be assembled there or if they were all produced in Titusville. The AAPK forum has a thread related to Dave Shirley Northwoods era knives and I’ve read it a couple of times and that is a main source of my information about Mr. Shirley. I have a few stag and ivory pieces of the Shirley era Northwoods and will try to post some pics of them here in the coming days.

Thanks so much for the reference, Buckibbq!!! You've cleared up a lot for me, including my suspicions!! I miss Dave Shirley; he was a kind and generous guy!! I met him before I met Bill Howard, at an early Queen Show, before I ever did any SFOs, and before Dave did any Northwoods!!
Queen made him a nice D2 knife!!!

Most welcome, Charlie…glad to share a tidbit of information when I can pull from the memory banks. Queen made him quite a few knives! I really wish there were accessible records of the models, cover variations and quantities that were made prior to GEC producing Northwoods.

I think it would be great to start a Dave Shirley Era Northwoods thread on this forum. Looking forward to seeing your Northwoods from that era! 👍🏻

A few more Northwoods Scagels…
