Let's talk Northwoods

I just picked up a small EDC fixed blade in kudo so I'll be seeking one that matches it hopefully. Otherwise I'll probably skip the others. Is it me or is this pattern absurdly thin? I can't tell if it's just the perception created by the Wharnecliffe.

That's a Fremont. Beefy blade. The blade on the delta jack was similar to the Fremont too, but shorter as in not as tall (not length). I didn't like it because of that. But the bear lake has a smaller frame, so maybe it is a "mini Fremont" now with dual bolsters and wharncliffe blade?

Out on these, due to a plumbing repair I have to pay for. I did want to try and snag one in burlap. But I am excited to see pictures!

I like it. It looks completely different from the first run of Bear Lakes. The wharncliff blade and end cap do give it a similar look to the Freemont Jack. This one will be a step down in size at approximately 3 1/2 inches closed. Also, it looks more slender than the Freemont.

The Kudu bone option is new. I wonder if it costs the same as the giraffe bone. The lighter colored burlap micarta looks new also.

I like the end caps but still on the fence if I will pick one up so we shall see ;)

Are these still made by GEC? Both the Bear Lake and the recent second Fremont drops didn’t coincide with what GEC was running in their own patterns. Some people also noted that the quality on the last Fremonts were a touch below what they were used to.
Derrick had mentioned before that KSF was looking at other manufacturers, so I as just curious.
Not any pics at the GEC blog either, although that is not unusual for KSF.

Just over a month since the Freemont came out so that was a very quick turn around on another Northwoods. Can they keep them coming this quickly?

I do like the look of the new Bear Lake. I prefer the double end caps. I bought the original with the spearpoint back in early 2017.

Still unsure what I will do today when the clock strikes 4.

Interesting thought that they might not use GEC anymore. I have to say that I wasn’t happy with my recent Fremont scores and sold them both. However, they had all hallmarks of a GEC knive. The weak pull and lackluster walk and talk killed it for me. Unfortunately that has been seen on some GEC knives as well lately. Still on the fence about the Bear Lake.

I'm glad I'm not the only one on the fence for this drop. The last Northwoods run was very sloppy. Worst fit and finish and walk and talk I've ever experienced on a Northwoods. I know a lot of people said that the spring and pivot just needed to be flushed/oiled but I have handled enough GECs and Northwoods to know that a flushing/oil was not the problem.

I have not had anything but superior craftsmanship and handle materials on any of the 2 dozen Northwoods I own. Looking forward to a Bear Lake today, only fence I'm on is whether I go for 1 or 2.

Did you return it or send it to GEC?

I got shut out on the Fremonts. Still burning about it, but my own fault, hemming and hawing about matching stag. Kept getting rejected at every check out attempt. Think I'll just go for a micarta this time.
