LOL, I've seen that folder before somewhere! It's a tip-up carry for lefties. I'm not a lefty, but thats how I...uh...I mean Jerry... made it for some reason.

I like tip-up. When I reach into my pocket to get the knife, my hand rests on it perfectly with my thumb right on the HOLE (or stud, I guess) ready for deployment.

With tip down carry I have to reposition the knife in my hand after I remove it from my pocket. This bugs me about my Syderco Police.

Tip up, blade out towards pant seam.
If it's a belt clip, same idea.
A blade hole would be less likely to catch pants and accidentally open:eek:

Well....
Your right. That makes the choice easy. If I remember correctly the other shots showed belt carry only. Now I think Dockers might have some pants that just might have pockets deep enough for front pocket carry, but it'll never fit in my 501's. Now that we've seen the proto I can't wait to the the variants Jerry might come up with on this sucker.

One nice thing is Jerry can't complain about the blade being so small that grinding it is a pain in the rear.

This allows the pivot point to be properly positioned when the knife is pulled from your pocket. It also lends better to wrist-flipping the blade open to deploy when necessary

yes! that's how i open my mini afk, reach in and grip the spine with thumb and forefinger, remove knife and flip the handle down. weight of handle opens knife and its in your hand.

i firmly believe it should be tip down for cosmetic reasons too, it will match the tip down position how i carry my new swamp rat sword.

or just make holes on both sides and both ends, we can all be individuals.

I grip the handles and flip the blade out. Took a bit of practice, but works each time.

Tip Up!

-Allows for deeper pocket carry
-Less chance for the knife to ride up and disappear :(
-Positions the blade against the outside seam of the pocket, further preventing accidental opening
-Allows for use of a lanyard to assist in retrieval from pocket
-Better position for the clip in a standard grip; keeping it out of the way of the index and middle fingers, which exert more pressure than the ring and pinky fingers
-Allows you, Jerry, more options on the placement of the clip since the pivot is not in the way :D
-Also easier to setup for left/right hand carry

Excellent post!

Tip down. Simply fact here guys that no one can dispute or even try to challenge. Folders are made to open therefore they will open even when not desired on occasion.

I've got to say tip down with the clip mounted high enough so it's barely visible in the pocket.

The best solution to this delima would be to drill for tip up and tip down, also drilling for the same for left handed carry.

Pewter flasks are definitely better, they don't effect the taste of the booze....Woops, wrong conversation. I have used both and switch back and forth frequently. BOTH configurations allow for deep pocket carry, and as long as the ball bearing detent is well made, it WON'T open unless it's supposed to. I like the switchable postion idea, I agree that options are great. But no matter what you choose, put me down for two!!!!:D :D :D

tip down like the BM afk. and deep carry doesn't mean beans, i don't like deep, who wants to have a knife hitting there knees?

besides, a folder with a 6 X 1/4 inch infi blade won't hide in your pocket anyway.

i want everybody to see my busse folder just to scare the $hit out of them:eek: :D :D :D

I voted tip up and that's my favorite but really I would love to see it drilled and tapped for movement of the clip for either up or down AND for either right or left hand carry. I have BM 710 and AFCK mostly because they are fully ambidexterous and I carry one of those in my left front pocket most days.

I have never seen a concensus on these forums on pocket carry. I think there are so many variables that make up each person's needs/preferences in this area. Why alienate either crowd? Make it adjustable so people can carry it the way that they like and that works best for their purposes.

Oh, and don't worry about all those extra wholes this would leave on the knife, ask Tom Mayo, it's worked out pretty well for him drilling some extra holes in his knives ;) :p :D

If I understand correctly... the tip should be in the down position. I think it's very natural. And from that position once removed there isn't much of a hand change to open and use it. One less step in getting the thing out and open.
