This along with the "Hole" opener would make it very easy for "right-ies" and "left-ies". Also it could be used by a right hander on the weak side as a back-up.

Ditto!

Tip Down,Down Down Please.... Nothing hurts more than a palm wound from a knife working open in a pants pocket. This would have been even worse if the knife had the "BAT" tip (Wishful Thinking :D).Please, I don't need another "Jesus style" scar to add to the collection.

UP! I've been carrying a tip up folder for years now, never had an accidental opening.

Dual thumb studs and an option to change the clip from right to left.

tip up or tip down depends on the design of the knive.
But please, DO NOT MAKE A BLADE WITH A THUMB HOLE FOR OPENING.
:barf:
It is ugly, it weakens the blade and a dual stud is perfectly operable.
Just my 2 ct
Uups, sorry, I posted here before I saw the other thread about the studs:D

Tip down for me --- but, lets also emphasize the design of the CLIP.

I carry left and right side, front and back pockets depending on what I am wearing or the gear I am carrying. I prefer to carry in my chest pocket when wearing my bullet resistant vest.

Hence, the clip should be easily and securely changeable at the wish of the user. The screws should lock in tightly and not work loose easily. The screw heads (hex heads?) and threads themselves should not "strip" after a few clip reversals. In a perfect world this "nuclear fastener" clip would not eat holes in the front of your pants, shirt, jacket, or vest pocket.

Hi Jerry-

Please accept my vote for TIP DOWN for the forthcoming folder. The miniscule penalty in deployment speed is more than offset by the inherent safety of a tip down design.

Whether you're serving on an Alpine Rescue team, lifeguard, law enforcement or whatever, the extra .10 of a second is not likely to make the difference between life and death in most knife-use scenarios. Self-defense with a folder? Enhanced situational awareness coupled with a reliable pistol/revolver is your best bet.

By design, TIP DOWN folders encourage the knife to remain in the closed position until they are drawn and purposely snapped open. That potential deep gash across your dominant palm could have you in a whole heap of trouble if you're in the backwoods or otherwise far away from medical attention.

Thanks for the consideration,

Blue Jays,

You and I think alike. I go with tip down. However, I am blown away by the demand for tip up. That's what's great about this forum. We get so much valuable feedback. So far, both of my choices, tip down and thumb stud have been in the minority preference. We are learning a lot here. This feedback should really help in the final design of these important details.

Thanks gang!

Keep it comin' Your feedback is very valuable to us and will help us bring a much better knife to the market than we would have without it. Many of you have given me insights into design areas that I hadn't considered. . . .

Okay, FREE folders for everyone!!!!. . . Oooops! Sorry. I hope I didn't confuse anyone, "folders" are what we call empty CBL cans, around the shop. ;)

Nuke on!

You have a cruel and twisted mind Jerry. COOL! I can't wait to see the folder that mind creates!!!

FOLD ON!!!

I can get by with either tip up or down.
The problem comes when you try to cut, chop or pry with the clip in the tip down position.
It gets in the way and hinders your grip.

You know, it sucks.....!

TIP UP!!!!!!
