Let's talk traditional, pocketable, fixed blade knives.

There's a few here who frequently carry a belt knife. What about pocketable traditional fixed blades? I mean, they are stronger than a slip joint.

I'm thinking about a Bark River CPM or City Knife. I might also like another Terrio. I really liked his Utility.

What other knives should I think about?

Carl posted a similar thread either this year or last year. What blade length are you looking at? I've put fixed blades in my pocket with blades up to 3" comfortably. Anything smaller than about 2.5" isn't really comfortable for me to use with my paws.

I would recommend the Gossman sheepsfoot or UNK, two very traditional designs (wharnecliffe and sheepsfoot). He made a micro Nessmuk and made a micro Kephart for me, but is not taking orders. He has UNK's and sheepsfoots available. JK makes a Hiking Buddy I had, very nice small fixed blade.

This is listed as a carving knife, but could be just super handy knife too, had one like it many years ago, sold it to a guy that was into carving decoys and loved it a lot, just real clean lines and a real practical look, they sell them as just blades too, which would be a lot less expensive, but these sure look useful and graceful, well, except for how large the makers mark is on the blade ;) that could do with some reduction but then, it's a small blade.

I'd want something slightly smaller than an Izula 2.... Probably around 6 inches OAL. 2.5-3" of blade would be good. Also something in a drop point. I've found I really like to carry the Izula 2, but would like something a little shorter and a little more traditional for daily carry.

yah, that could very well be too small, but sometimes that's about all we really need to, I just thought it was kinda cool ;) I discovered them while watching a show on PBS called The WoodWrights shop about Roy Underhill and some real traditional methods of doing just about everything, he took a trip to Washington state and visited Gregg Blomberg and saw how he forged these blades and I think the made a bent wood box too on that episode. That was MANY years ago when that episode aired...:)

These are Bark River Essentials. I pocket and belt carry these.

These are Bark River Mini Fox Rivers. I also pocket and belt carry these. The Essential and the Mini Fox River use the same belt sheath.

Nick Wheeler JUST posted a few of these for sale the other day and there may be one left if you hurry! - I bought mine over a year ago.

6 inches of 1084 goodness

I was just thinking about small FBs myself :) Duane gave me a nice one. I like a small FB :)

My little Sheffields...........................FES

These take me back to being a boy, I used to carry two at a time, had quite a few of them. Think all my girlfriends walked off with them when I was a teenager! :D

You can still buy these knives, and they're inexpensive, been thinking about getting one again myself :)
