Leu Custom Kozuka Neck Knife

TJL: Yeah, Pohan is a truly humble guy & I respect him & his work a lot.
Hopefully, I can get the delivery this afternoon. I'll let you guys know how I feel ASAP.

Rolf: I'm not qualified to give any full report but I'll try to say someting in more detail. Hey! Have you received your Yorol Toshi?

Hi mmmotorcycle, I've planned to do some rope cutting. Water bottles & paint cans? Maybe later, because I want to show off to the others just how well Pohan's blades cut & also with good look!:D

Joe

Joe---Po is has my Yoroi Toshi and a new order, a Hemp wrapped Kozuka, in-line. He likes to make me wait!! :) You might want to order one of those Hempies...they're gonna be HOT!!
Rolf

Joe---Po or TJL, can show you a pic. Mine is a 3.5" kata-kira-ba blade with a simple Hemp cord wrap. I love the deadly simplicity of that design! ;)

Is it just me, or does TJL, Lycosa and Leu Custom seem like the same person posting using different usernames? Every time there's a Leu custom knife topic, these two other usernames appear: Lycosa and TJL .... and they seem to "market" or otherwise "advertise" his knives.

Customers usually don't obsessively keep posting in one thread about one maker -can a mod check the IP addresses?

Nice knife by the way. :)

For a prime example of this, look no further than Chris Reeve knives.

A lot of people seem to "market" the Sebenza and Chris Reeve knives in general, as you suggest. Some people are very passionate about knives, and even more passionate about their favorite knife maker or knife design.

If you really like something it's natural to get other people to try it to share your experience.

And I say :thumbup: nothing wrong with that!

TJL and Lycosa are just long time customers and friends. We are 3 different people

Well, unless I have a split personality, and the two other guys in my brain are posting while I am unconscious, NO. I think we all chime in because we appreciate this blade design. I believe in Pohan's work and quality as well as his character, so I like to share my positive experiences with his blades. He deserves all the praise i give him and a lot more. I really do wish I could afford to buy everything he makes. No need for you to be paranoid.

Don't forget all the pictures! I want to see decapitated water bottles, paint cans, and thousands of rope pieces! :D

I've got to go by a local junkyard and get a car door so I can video my Leu piercing and cutting it. In the meantime, go to the Leu Custom website and check the testing page for metal cutting (me) and lots of little hemp pieces (Pohan).

Again......... don't try this at home :D

Can I be part of the split personality?

I also love Pohan's work! :D

I too wish this.....maybe someday...;)

I just checked out the website... man, you can colour me impressed. I think these blades must qualify as some true bargains in the custom world.

I'm not a fan of the chisel grind, but watching that thing process that piece of paper was pretty damned cool.

But why chisel grind only? Is this to achieve the magical zero grind action?

when I first encountered the chisel grind, I thought it was weird and unbalanced (is there such a word?) aesthetically. I still do. But when you compare the cutting ability of a properly sharpened zero grind blade (sharpened on the right for us righties) vs a double ground blade....there IS a difference. And with a properly heat-treated tool steel...I think you have a winning combo.

I think Pohan does double zero grind also, but I think that unless you request for a 7 deg per side double zero grind (Pohan, is this doable), you may lose some of the great cutting performance of a chisel zero grind knife.

However, it should be noted that all the MS knives used at cutting competitions appear to be full flat with a convexed edge or fully convexed...so I guess optimum blade geometry and ability to sharpen properly will bring out the best in a blade profile...be it hollow, convex, sabre, flat or chisel ground.

YMMV :p

Thanks for yr thoughts...

Actually, its the sharpening part that gives me cause for concern. What is the best method for sharpening this type of blade if one only has the usual sharpening equipment (Sharpmaker, piece of leather, etc).
