This is one of my Cleavers, cut from a bar of 5/16" thick 5160 spring/tool steel. I hand forge in the taper to the edge and that causes the curve to form. I then finish grind, oil harden, temper and polish them. This one is a little different from my usual stuff, besides being thicker i left the finish on the spine as it was after cleaning up the scale, with just a little light polish. Also i left the rounded edge of the original stock on the top edge. I wanted it to be interesting, and contrast the rough and the finished parts. It is 12&1/4" long overall and has 7&1/4" sharpened edge, and weighs 1 LB. 6OZ. The Cocobolo scales are removable for cleaning or maintenance and are finished with an Orange oil/beeswax combo. I put a pretty high shine on these, but carbon steel must be cared for and will patina with use.
