lifetime knife

Strider SNG DGG. Maybe not under $400 new, but I could scrounge one up. Just the thought of only one knife forever... Makes my head hurt.

I assume this is the only knife you're allowed to own forever? If that's the case I'd upgrade my Swisschamp with a Swisschamp XLT.

Spyderco Tuff. It's just like my good buddy's baby momma'...hella' ugly but tough enough to keep coming back for more ;) .

Spyderco Para2 ~~ holds up to just about anything you can put it through and it keeps on ticking just like a Timex.!*** lol

A Carbon Fiber Sebenza 21. There is not a better built, stronger, and lighter knife out there. Period. Most balanced folder, ever. Yay.

While its not necessarily easy to get an XM-18 for the $385 it can be done (and I have done it before)... sooo.... that's my choice. Spanto Flipper 3.5" in 20CV.

If you had to choose one knife for the rest of your life with a $400 max limit, which would you choose?

If it just a pocket knife - not specific for anything but great all rounder to have for pocket carry - go for the Sebenza - personal choice is whether it the small or large Sebenza and classic or insingo blade. The reason for this recommendation is well known company, good guarantee which also mean parts available - some secondhand value and spa treatment available.

None of the suggestions I saw here is bad. My suggestion for something in that price range is the Sebenza and I have personal satisfaction from its use and I stated the other reasons of my recommendation. At the end of the day it comes down to personal choice and only you will know your actual use and what you want from the knife.

Good luck with the choice and let us know what you chose and how you got there

0777m390, small sebenza.

Honestly, I would probably go for one big and one small. ZT0560 and a BM940

$400 is a strange price point. It's above almost all standard production knives but just below or at the bottom of the higher end ones.

I expect that price point was chosen due to the Sebenza...a knife often set forth as a "gold standard" of the mid-techs.

Don't own a Sebenza or a Hinderer, but I am very pleased with my Grayman Dua.

For $400, you could get a Satu. Kinda big for the pocket though.
