Probably my NWA H.O.S.S. If I could find one at $400, the Busse NMSFNO would be a close second...

Ya cuz that costs 400 $ lol mr. There are only 4 known to be made.
If your gonna have 1 knife imo should stick to a fixed blade.

I'd take the USD 400 to a custom maker and talk about the possibilities.
Probably if I tell him it would be "the only one for my life" I could talk him into something interesting.
But then - this is a hypothetically question, right?

Proven design, holds an edge, great all around multi tasker, and cheap if you can find one.

It would come down to these two for me...

...and the Victorinox Pioneer would win because it can do so much more than just cut stuff. I'm just glad I don't have to choose only one! :)

My NWA H.O.S.S. show above (and another shot here better showing the color of the handle), which was built to my spec's by a true custom craftsman of the highest order (the fit/finish/construction is about flawless) was well within the $400 budget.

I have to say, I love my Benchmade Rukus. Hasn't met a challenge it can't beat with ease. Amazing drop point over 4.25 inches of S30V steel. Jibbing gives good grip however it is held and with its weight you always know you have it!
