Lighters, matches and firestarters

I got it going on Sunday the 25th of October with a piece of newspaper, folded double into about the size of a wooden match. Too wide of tinder blocks the sun. It was about 11 am & no clouds. I'm just outside of Denver Colorado, not sure of latitude. If you notice in the link, they were making fire & there was snow on the ground. If you can protect it from the wind , it should ignite most tinder. I just put cotton in mine cause I had some handy.
I know there are much better ways to make fire, but this is for a situation where nothing else is available. I keep a 2" X 2" freznel lens in my wallet by the way.

You might check Walmart in the office supply section. They are used for reading magnifiers. Any office supply should have 'em too & they are also used as magnifiers there. They are flexible & mine's holding up to wear & tear in the wallet quite well.
I actually got mine from the small Spyderco "Steel Chart" that they have at the factory store. The lens is riveted to the plastic chart. I just cut it off.

For the aluminum can parabolic dish fire-starter, use aluminum polish to remove the surface aluminum oxide. This will give you a nice, shiny, reflective surface in no time and gives an easy addition to the bottom of your "Pepsi can" alcohol stove.

Has anybody thought about polishing up the bottom of their gas cannister? .... larger surface....;)
