Lightweight Folder Recommendations

I have a Gerber EZ Out that has served me well for nearly 20 years and disappears in the pocket. They only make a skeletonized version now but they are less than $30. I tend to actually use it more than my BM Grip and other pricier knives. Also check out Kershaw Blur Ken Onion - fun to play with once broken in, but might be a little over 3oz.

Benchmade Pardue 531 or 531BK ....this has become my edc. I bought it to be my "shorts Knife". Its light weight so it wont tug or hang awkwardly on lighter weight fabric shorts. Then, it became my everyday. Lightweight, G10 handles, axis lock, and it looks good.

My suggestion: Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight, (CTS BD1 Steel). It can be found new for $75 (if you need to know where, let me know and I'd be happy to help).

Here are the specs:

Overall Length : 8.03"
Blade Length : 3.37"
Closed Length : 4.66"
Blade Thickness : 0.125"
Blade Steel : CTS BD1
Weight : 3 oz
Handle Material : FRCP
Country of Origin : USA

Here is mine (well, one of them...):

I like the size of this one. Is the lock strong and trustworthy?

Unfortunately for me, I have a major problem with Spyderco, and it's all me. I think they build an excellent, strong, ergonomic knife - very comfortable in hand, good locks, good steel. I just can't get into the darn looks! Uggh!

Same thing happened to me, 531 took over the EDC slot.

The Benchmade 531 is a flat grind. It covers most of your bases except a little high on the price. Before you buy one, I'd suggest that you try one out in-hand first. The ergos are a little different and people usually either like them or hate them.

The Benchmade 530 is a flat grind spear point (picture a dagger point but with a false edge on top), but can usually be found for less than $100. FRN handles vs. G10

Also check out the H&K 14410 and 14411 Soldat. They're getting a little hard to find but they are still generally out there for a little over $50. It comes in drop point or tanto, plain or part serrated.
Blade Length: 3.30"
Grind: Flat
Blade Style: Drop Point
Weight: 2.8 ounces
Steel: N680 (which I think is around a 420HC?)

If you have trouble finding one, shoot me a pm and I can point you in the right direction.

EDIT: after a quick check, it looks like only the tanto version is still readily available...not sure what happened to all the drop points...
They are just a nicer profile is my guess

According to SAKwiki, the Cowboy is just 57 grams, or 2.01062 oz.

And then there's the Sentinel and Sentinel One Hand, both are presumably even lighter since they just have a blade, no phillips screwdriver on the back side.

Lock-up is perfect, and it's supposed to be "self-adjusting" and actually get an even tighter fit with use (not sure if I can tell a difference after heavy EDC rotation all year). And, yes, some people hate the aesthetics of the Spydies. But they just freakin' work - they are the easiest opening design (other than a waved folder, of course) on the market, especially with cold, wet, muddy, and/or gloved hands. The Manix 2 LW is, INHO, one of the best looking EDC-able Spydies available. My 2 cents...

Cannot deny.
That Manix 2 lightweight with S110V is an insane deal for an incredible knife in a light, strong, and economical package.

Ordered a custom "tattooed" Deejo today for a friend for Christmas - nice looking design. Another friend of mine was in Paris last week and brought me back a picture of a Deejo display that he had seen since he knows I am a knife fan.

Cool stuff.

best
