Like a phoenix? CSC is reborn...

Whatever the various reason for them closing down, you should remember (if you have actually bought a Forum Knife at all?) that the Forum Knives were all pre-paid in full including shipping costs before CS even began making them. So I feel that yes they certainly did have a business and ethical obligation to finish the order.

I have the Forum Knife from 2015 and it's a choice example that I'm very pleased with, far better finished than any of my other CS knives, two of which I gave away, the other 2 I don't use.

Never said they didn't have an obligation, just that they fulfilled their obligation during a business crisis that resulted in the end of Canal Street. That's uncommon. I think that means they should get some slack from the "Porch" :) It's called being charitable. Most consider it a virtue.

No business reason at all. When you go bankrupt, you lock the doors and let creditors, like those who paid for knives not delivered, get in line. Delaying filing so that forum knives could be delivered might actually have been a breach of fiduciary duty ... I'd call that a solid.
This is the first I have heard that they went bankrupt. Where did you get your information?

I assumed as much, since it seems all too common in the industry. I suppose that they could have closed gracefully, without debt. In that case, delivering knives paid for would be the right thing to do.

Wish I could say the same. Mine was pretty terrible. The covers were the only decent part of it. Sold it at a substantial loss.

I could very well be wrong, but I was under the impression that literally half their cutlerers quit/retired/died in like a 10 month period and they decided to close up shop because they couldn't produce the quality & quantity they felt was necessary to compete.

Again, that's just what I thought I read somewhere.

I believe you did read that somewhere because I did too.

Probably that's right, I searched online for a bankruptcy filing and didn't find one. But my Google-fu is weak ...

Alrighty. My red flannel micarta pinch lockback arrived today.

1st and foremost, with all the complaints going on, and especially the attempted 11th hour blade steel switcharoo, I did not have extremely high hopes. I opened up the box biased against it.

First thought, this red flannel micarta is just super neat looking. I REALLY like it. It looks much better in person than in the original pictures on the order page. The satin finish really brings out it's character.

F&F is very nice for a lockback, but not outstanding. Well more like the fit is very good. Finish isn't what we've seen out of GEC the past 6 months or so, but still good. Better than Case.

It came out of the box extra filthy. Now thats not a problem with me, as I find cleaning and oiling my knifes almost therapeutic, same as my rifles. After an extremely thorough cleaning, the action is nice and silky

Closed, the blade is loose in the liners and will rattle around if you try (would like to see that cleared up in the future), but open and locked mine has zero front/back play, zero up/down play, and just a smidgen side to side play. The lock up is better than any of my GEC lockbacks.

My one huge gripe though is the sharpening. This thing came about as sharp as a used up $5 kitchen knife. Spent over an hour on the SharpMaker before I was able to get a serviceable edge on it. Its still on the dull side, comparitivly, to the rest of my knives.. On the flip side though, most of the older NIT GECs I've handled were pretty darn dull as well.

The price was a bit on the high side for me, but then 154 CM does cost more than 1095. All in all, I was moderately surprised with this knife. I'd be more than willing to give CSC Co-Op another try, especially with new/interesting cover options like on this example.

I'm not usually big on micarta, but that flannel looks sweet. Thanks for the pics.

Hi All. Got my flannel micarta knife last week. Agree completely with Ajd3530's assessment. The loose fit of the blade when closed yet solid when open is odd. Is it due to mill relieved liners? The micarta covers are like nothing I've seen before, and very sharp looking.

I would be frustrated too if I'd ordered in July and still no knife in hand. I can say that Josh at RMC was very helpful with my questions regarding the steel switchup. I think they may be in a bit of a hard place trying to get these knives delivered, and wonder if they will terminate their relationship with CS Co-Op because of it. At the least pushing out periodic updates should be happening.

still waiting on my stag and cocobolo boys knife. they had said they were waiting for the stag to finish to ship together but i guess they didnt arrive by end of decemeber.

The one CSC I have is really well done and I look forward to the other two I have on order. Having said that, I am a very patient man and don't mind waiting for good things. I paid in advance and now sit back and wait for something cool to show up in the mail one day. It is not ideal and it is a little frustrating sometimes but not the end of the world for me. I've waited longer for lesser things (Kickstarter items for example). However, what is a little difficult to grasp is the underlying business plan intended for this CSC Co-Op venture. It all makes zero sense from a business perspective (very limited quantity, super long lead times, little to no communication with the customers, etc). Has anyone from RHC or CSC Co-Op read through this thread? A little communication with the intended customer base would go a long way. Some honest disclaimers and realistic delivery dates at the time of pre-ordering would also go a long way.

I ordered a stag Boys Knife back in July immediately upon hearing CSC was back in business, primarily to support them in that endeavor. Having another quality maker thriving in this market space can only be a good thing. The long wait for delivery has been surprising and somewhat disappointing, and does not bode well for CSC's continued business success. I hope the quality of the delivered product will be high, and CSC can get back on track with reasonable wait times after prepayment of orders.

waverave waverave Darren, which one have you received, and does it have any blade play when closed?
The one I have received so far is the Cocobolo boy's knife. It has no blade play whatsoever, blade is centered, w&t is good and I am really pleased with it. Although I am not the biggest fan of the shield, my opinion on that is irrelevant with respect to the quality of the knife.

I got one of the first ones out, in scarlet bone. On mine the quality is as waverave waverave says, well made; though it’s not that sharp. I still like it and, yes, I need to learn how to sharpen my knives! Tried stropping, helped a tad. It’s a nice little knife.

I'd really like to see CSC succeed, but as I said before I'm not comfortable prepaying for a knife in these circumstances (or really any). I haven't paid great attention, but catching up now doesn't push me closer to buying one.

I had one CSC, the forum knife. It definitely had flaws and finishing issues but I really liked it. Unfortunately I lost it at work.
