Lil Temperance 3 - I must be missing something!

I'll definitely get a Lil Tempetance 3 once they've been discontinued and discounted.

fwiw, I'd just get one now.^ You could no doubt sell it for what you paid. These Lil Temps are such interesting knives. I now actually prefer the leaf blade over the chisel blade.

I LOVE this design, but I wont pay 70 more than I should be paying. It just doesn't make sense.

there are much nicer offerings at and just north of $100

Update! The LT3 is my overall favorite Spyderco folder! It fits my hand like a glove! I love the new handle design better than the original.
This is just one cool folder!
Thank you, Doug! Thank you, Sal!

Sal and the folks at Spyderco have said several times that they work with pretty fixed margins. If you want a Japanese knife you're going to pay for it.

I'm pretty sure the Japanese makers use less automated machinery and more handwork than the rest of them as well. Whether or not you consider the end result as "worth it" is personal preference.

In short , I talked to eric during the amsterdam spyderco meet.
Japanese steels are expensive. getting s30v over there adds costs.
Also starting a new folder is more expensive than keep pushing out a knife they've been making for decades.

I handled one of these the other day and it is a tank. It felt as if the Techno was suddenly made with G10 and a compression lock. I'm not saying they look the same but the sturdiness was the same. I was on the fence with this one but not anymore. I would have bought it then and there but the store had already put the D'Allara 3 and S110V UKPK aside for me. I'll be going back sooner than later to get it though.

The action was like on a Para 2 btw.

I am holding off on this until next year's list of sprints...I hope the LT3 makes the cut for 2018! It has already become my third favorite Spydie :)

Thanks, SpyderDude and adamlau.^
A thinner, lighter tank but just as tough.
I love the wide, stout leaf blade! It can work hard and punch a nice wide hole, if that needs be.

Original Lil Temp was made in Golden, would have preferred this one been made there too. Also Golden would have allowed for better steel than s30v

This^^. The new model lost 1mm of blade girth that was what made the original such a beast. This is now a Lil Temp shaped PM2 in my mind. Falls short of the original

Try one first.^ Then you can comment.
I like the LT3 handle better than the original.

I held one today at my B&M- before I commented. I also owned an original. The new one, while a nice piece is a shell of the original. My opinion of course

Compare it to the sage 5. New knife with same materials and lock up. Made in Taiwan which usually has better f and f than Japan. Knowing Sal, the margins are standard. Have to cut the production costs to keep it within Spyderco s traditional high value price range.

Thanks, twinboy. Do you have a favorite Spyderco?
I chose the LT3 because I rally like the evolution of this folder and have really come to like the Leaf blade. If I like a knife, I buy it. I think I paid $200. for the original Lil Temp. I don't see the difference.

I've also been a bit perplexed by the cost of these higher-end Seki knives. OK, they're more expensive to produce. Spyderco needs to use Japan because capacity is constrained elsewhere. But do people buy them? From reading these forums it seems like the answer is no. A brand new Temp3 popped up on the exchange a day or two ago and it sat there for hours priced at $160. For a brand new model, priced at $30 less than a dealer, that's not a good sign.
