Links to my YouTube knife reviews (updated January 31, 2015)

Today, a closer look at a fascinating recent high-end utility folder. How ambitious? Well, for starters the handle is milled from one piece of titanium. And there are other interesting features as well, such as a rotational "lockbar blocker". Has the Sebenza met its match? Watch the video to find out!

88. Lion Steel SR-1 Ti: an ambitious folder

I thought this one deserved an embedded.

Yes the Lion Steel is quite special, isn't it. Europe's über-Sebenza.

Today:
A closer look at two keenly priced modern folding knives from leading manufacturers. I discuss them together as both knives have more luxurious, more high-end variants available and it is interesting to see how much you give up with these affordable folders; and if the differences really matter in the end.

90. Spyderco Stretch VG10/FRN and Kershaw Speed Bump: affordable variants

I hope you enjoy 'em, SteelSnob !

Any comments on how to make them better are aways welcome.

Today, a closer look at a wonderful limited edition of the classic Swiss Army Knife (SAK), brought as a collaboration between Victorinox and SwissBianco. This special Pioneer (which is in essence the classic alox Soldier with a few minor differences) is recognisable with its black alox handles, and especially the luxurious damasteel damascus blade. Watch the clip to find out more about it!

You know you want it:

You're definitely one of my favorites on youtube and I just want to say, thank you sir.

Thanks, Drudge.

The new Rhino is a good example of the dynamic Boker Plus brand: custom designs brought as affordable production models without skimping on quality. Here we have a closer look at this very attractive multi-purpose compact fixed blade, a production version of a highly regarded custom design by Jesper Voxnaes. With cutting demo.

92. Böker Plus Rhino: a splendid compact fixed blade

Dagon, fantastic review as always. I plan on getting one thanks to your review.

Could you tell me what other Boker knives you hope to review? Specifically I wonder about Anso's Haddock design and even the Mini-Prymate that Jesper has with them.

Thanks for what you do! :)

Thanks for your friendly comments.

I currently have the Böker Plus Gnome (consider it as an affordable mini-Prymate variant), the Pocket Bowie and the XS modern slipjoint on order. They should arrive soon.
There are also a number of older other knives (for example from Spyderco and Eka) that I didn't get around making a video about just yet.

I don't have the Haddock. I examined it in a physical shop and I quite liked it, but would only buy it in an affordable Boker Plus version. Nice and original, but it is rather expensive. If someone would lend me a Haddock I wouldn't mind making a clip, but I will probably not buy it.
The two Prymates are lovely but also quite expensive in my opinion.
The most attractive modern German-made Bokers are to me the new "Titan" knives, such as the Titan Worker and Titan Defender and Titan Defender Lightweight. I examined them and they are world class. But I don't have any of them...

I expected that they seemed a little expensive. I love Mr. Krein's work and look forward to seeing what you have to say about his Pocket Bowie and other knives in the coming weeks.

Thanks again! :)

Today begins an alternative category of uploads: Knife show reports.
I plan to show the work of interesting knife makers. Updates will be very irregular, of course.

From the Dutch Knife Exhibition 2010 we have a look at the creations of 3 talented Belgian custom knife makers:
- Filip De Coene (custombladeworks) of whom I previously discussed his "Mini Explorer" and "Arrow 2";
- Filip De Leeuw (deviantblades) of whom I previously discussed a modern friction folder that's inspired by the classic curved chinese folder design;
- Jan Dox whose blades are often inspired by classic Japanese designs.
We end this video with a quick look at a clever small Kiridashi by Jan Dox.

Knife show reports:
1. Dutch Knife Exhibition 2010 impressions

Close on the heels of the Knife show report, a new review that features an interview from the event as well:

I have previously discussed the mighty Pohl Force Alpha One (meanwhile further refined as Alpha Two and Three). A great knife, but perhaps too much of a good thing for EDC. Hence knife designer Dietmar Pohl now offers a smaller variant, that's perfect for EDC: the Bravo One, which comes in 2 versions.
In this review we have a closer look at the Bravo One, we compare its features with those of its big brother, and there is even an interview with Mr. Pohl !

93. Pohl Force Bravo One Outdoor: sturdy EDC

It took a while (holiday and especially a still not fully repaired computer hardware problem got in the way), but finally 3 new clips which I hope you find interesting:

Pallarès Solsona is a small family-owned Spanish cutlery that mainly produces professional kitchen knives, and also an elegant classical folder in that typical irresistible mediterranean look. Here we have a look at such a folder (with horn tip handle), and also at an efficient and light mid-sized kitchen knife.

94. Timeless Spanish knives by Pallarès Solsona

----

A closer look at two charming and very compact fixed blades designed by highly regarded custom knife makers Jasper Voxnaes (Gnome) and Tom Krein (Pocket Bowie), and brought in affordable yet nice production versions by Böker, in their interesting Boker Plus brand.

95. Boker Plus Gnome & Pocket Bowie: not just for hobbits

----

Here we examine the orange-handled sprint run variant of the Spyderco Bill Moran FB02 fixed blade, this is the drop point version of a modern classic. Lightweight, high performing and very practical, this is a must-have. Watch the video for all the details.

96. Spyderco Bill Moran FB02: the perfect lightweight

Today, 3 new reviews.
I skip review #100 for now, it will come later.

98. Boker Plus 3000 Lightweight - reinventing a classic
A closer look at an attractive and modern two-hand opening knife from Böker, in fact a rethinking of one of Böker's classic sturdy hunting folders. Wide in scope and offering a good quality/price ratio, this is a knife to consider.

99. Boker Plus Carbon - for modern gentlemen
The new Boker Plus Carbon is a refined gentlemen knife, proving that 2-hand opening knives can be high-tech and modern. In addition, as all the Boker Plus products, it is offered at an attractive price. Worth checking out if you're looking for a lighter duty companion knife !

101. BEE knives: offering great value
BEE is a brand of the Chinese company Enlan. Next to being an outsourcing partner for the affordable product lines of several western knife brands, they also offer their own designs. Here we have a look at 4 very affordable Bee knives and examine their quality/price ratio...

The Finnish company Marttiini is especially known for their great filleting knives and for several classic scandinavian fixed blades. Even the modern ones with synthetic handles are inline with the scandinavian tradition. Now they branch out by offering the extremely sturdy 350010 full tang knife, that should please many survivalists!

102. Marttiini 350010 Full Tang: sturdy scandinavian

Today - and from now on my clips will be in glorious 720p high definition:

The German city Solingen is since centuries an important European cutlery city. Here we have a closer look at two classically designed pocket knives, both made in Solingen.
The Böker Cronidur is a variant of Böker's classic sturdy backlock folder, here equipped with a new and interesting steel - a mix of tradition and modernism.
The Robert Klaas Monolith is a lovingly handcrafted and timelessly elegant back-lock folder. A small company with near-custom precision standards, this rare brand is worth looking for.

103. Böker Cronidur & Klaas Monolith: beauties from Solingen

The Böker Eurofighter is a very modern tactical knife with a futuristic design. It is already a few years old (in fact, it's not in production anymore) yet it is still incredibly attractive. The knife was designed by the capable Dietmar Pohl and the 154CM blade indeed has that "Pohl look". Watch the video for a closer look.

Mr. Dagon, your reviews are by far the best on youtube.

I love seeing all the different regional patterns.
