I use Danish Oil on wood, and Hardwax Oil on micarta or when I want a surface to polish. They will both penetrate the material and they both hardens when dry. If you want to surface treat anything you must first make sure the material doesn’t soak what you put on top. If you use oil you will need to ad it in layers until it’s full, and wait for it to dry before final sanding or polish. You may use varnish or laquer wich does hardens faster than oil and therefore doesn’t soaks down in the material like slow drying oils. In this case I would use Danish Oil or Hardwax Oil and give it the surface treatmen I want when dry. Wetsanding to whatever grit is desired, steel wool or high gloss polish.
