Photos Lion Steel "Roundhead" Barlow PICS

Received my gem in a few days ago and have been putting it through it's paces - absolutely love this piece, fantastic knife!

I've been carrying and appreciating these fine knives the past few days and thought this was the best thread in which to post them. These folders have so many likeable aspects such as; easily pinch-able, crisp half stops, hand filling length, all edges radius-ed for a comfortable grip and so on that together they make these Lion Steel, wonderful pocket cutlery.

First and second release; Roundhead and Shuffler.

Totally agree, James. They are wonderful, high quality knives! Well photographed too!

Just revisited these again, Horn of Amazement :D:D:cool:

Great items, really choice:thumbsup:

Thanks, Will

Thanks for the nice words, Will! I am amazed and mesmerized by the sheep horn every time I pick them up.

Great pics, Dwight!

One from the Exchange is on its way back to Europe

Think I might try and argue with Customs that it should not attract import tax, I mean it's made in the EU and I live here:) But, I see stupidity looming....

Well it got here on Friday but I was away, no mishaps and well worth the wait!

When this project was getting off the ground I was frankly unenthusiastic, how wrong I was and how in this case, I like admitting I was wrong. I thought that the modern materials & methods grafted on to a Traditional pattern would be sterile or even a mess, well wrong. I might have been suffering from Barlow Overload of course ;)

The knife amazes me, the proportions, materials and the excellence of construction are deeply impressive, but above all the right incorporation of a very traditional European material Ram's Horn/Mufllon give it vitality and looks. I don't know what the bolsters are, matte finish titanium?? But they work a treat, I particularly like the tubular effect to the backspring and liners, beautiful and something I've not seen before. But I'd like to see it more often as it enhances the smooth radiused in hand feel, nothing sharp or rough, this also enhances appeal. Blade is crisply finished, good swedge but no sharp edges on it, it opens out correctly no cant (droop) . Snap is satisfying and pull good.

OK a couple of questions as I'm out of my depth with Modern type of construction. What do I need to tighten the screws with? Any advice for sharpening? I like the minimalist box it came in and this one has a fine slip of excellent quality leather, mind you, I never use slips unless travelling.

Really pleased with this knife, could be Knife of the Year but the year's still young in knife terms :D

Glad you like it Will! I love my shuffler.

You’ll need a torx bit set to take the covers off and get to the pivot, which is underneath. It rides on washers too, so you may want to take the whole thing apart to clean and polish those once it gets good and used.

The m390 is tough to sharpen unless you’ve got patience or a really hard material like ceramic or diamond I’d say. I used a 1200 grit waterstone but it took awhile. Stays sharp though!

Thanks J! I have diamond stones which I use particularly for D2, have to get a good torx set then.

Will Power Will Power -Will, nice roundhead, the horn handles are my favorite. BTW, the torx screws used on your LionSteel's handle are size T-6. You may be able to buy just the one specific size or at least be sure it is included in the set.

Great photo Will! If you can match the factory angles it shouldn’t be too hard to sharpen. I reset the factory angles to 30 degrees inclusive on one of mine, so I could use a Sharpmaker for quick touch-ups. It worked really well. Changing that angle took quite a bit of effort though.

So glad to hear your opinion. Yes, bolsters and liners are Ti; and T6 / T8 for skins and pivot respectively.

Appreciate that Mike

Now I need to locate one of those Teardrops you had made, in Maple...

Thanks, Will
