List of Good Knives Under $38

OK.....I'll play. I don't believe I've seen any mention of the SVORD Peasant (large or mini) a nice, unique "friction folder" for little money made in New Zealand. Of course Mora, Opinel and SAK are a must for any collection. For a bargain priced "fixed blade", one could buy a nice new (or used for that matter) "Old Hickory" Butcher knife for very little money and have a sweeet SHARP larger knife! I also keep Eye balling that F. DICK "Lamb Skinner" which I think would be a steal at about twenty dollars.

HARDBALL

Hardball, I like the idea of the Old Hickory but they are a little big to carry in my pocket :) The Svord I have and it is a good knife if you need one that does not have a lock.

Case and SAK make some I like in that range.
I like Case yellow derlin CV models, and the Alox SAK's a good bit.
I no longer buy modern's in that price range. To many issues with one's I've owned in the past(CRKT, Rat 1, etc...)

Yes, and that is why I gave my experiences with those on my list. No 'issues."
I failed to put the Buck 110 and 112 on the list, and they should be.

Yes, Coloradospyderco, those Spyderco value knives are hard to beat. I almost bought the Persistence and did not include it because I do not have one. It looks like a great knife. I bought the Cat because of country of origin and I am more familiar with 440C characteristics.
How has it held up to use?

It's a fantastic knife! The steel is not the highest quality, but it takes a very sharp edge and holds it pretty well. It does rust though ( happened to my tenacious). I also love the g-10! Great EDC!

I must be shopping in the wrong places, I thought Recon 1's and the large holdouts were $60+. I would have to say the voyager series are another great deal around $40

The Rats are top of my "Budget list" one of the few budget knife I haven't given away.
They hold up well with lockup equal to knives 3 or 4 times the cost. Takes a good edge and very easy to sharpen. I gave my an acid bath then a good stonewashing.

Recon 1s are currently on sale for $40, though I'm not sure all versions are. Same with the Hold Out 1, the serrated version is on sale for $40, but the plain edge is still around $90

Cold Steel Tuff Lite. This little sucker has impressed the heck out of me. I like wharnies to begin with, but it's small enough to carry darn near anywhere, but still plenty big enough for me to get a solid, 4 finger grip on it. I'm sincerely hoping Cold Steel puts the XHP that they're playing with in this model, as that would pretty much make it my perfect office EDC.

I impulse bought an Imperial lockback with a 4" blade at the Dollar store for a whole Two bucks. I EDC'd it for a day to see what would happen, and I was shocked, it handled most everything and I had no concern over loss, plus I just put the carbide pull sharpener to it with absolutely no reservations. After losing more than one $100+ EDC knife, they now stay at home and the "Junker' rides in my pocket.

The Junker. I guess I lucked out at two bucks. this isn't the actual one, but it's the same exact model.

A great user I carry alot is the buck odyessy with the sandvic steel. They are dc'd but can be found new old stock on ebay.

Ok just found them on KW, that's a hell of a deal. Looks like the holdout 3's are under $30 too

Enlan EL01 is 15 to 20 dollars with free shipping, it has a beefier liner lock and bigger blade than the Rat 1.

I have both the Ontario Rat 1 and Enlan EL01, the EL01 is a better stronger knife and the Rat 1 slices better and has a more comfortable grip/handle.......Although the Rat 1 has a more comfortable handle, the Enlan EL01 has a better grip.

the only problem with the EL01 is that it comes with out a screw insert in the pivot screw so you have to dremel it in.

Yeah, it is a great deal. I watched a video on YouTube where they set out to destroy one of these knives and they were only able to do so after shooting it with a hunting rifle, or something. Anyway, the lock is very strong. I think only the clip points are on special.

Kershaw Emerson lineup from kershawguy.

Seconded. I got the CQC-8K almost a week ago, and an Emerson Horseman yesterday, and the 8K rivals the Horseman in quality. It's really mind blowing.
