I am not a big fan of the steel that CRKT uses. With that being said, I carried a CRKT M16-02 or a Prowler for most of my military career. Both are less less than $38 each if you shop smart. I would love to find another Prowler PE.

The only thing I really have to add that hasn't already been said are the ESEE Zancudo and Avispa. They are on equal footing with the Ontario Rats in quality although the designs aren't quite as good, IMO; however, they are still an amazing value.

The Avispa is a flat out better knife than the Rat 1. Thinner in handle and blade, but both handle and blade are wider. Stone washed lock side and blade instead of that shiny fingerprint grabbing finish on the Rat. The Avispa cuts as well as the Rat 2, and is as unobtrusive, but with the size of the Rat 1.
 
I actually think the 8cr13mov that CRKT uses is quite nice. I have had a Lake 111 for a couple of years: whilst the edge does chip and roll it is easy to get back to a hair shaving edge on the lansky.

Never have owned anything from them with that steel. They now are producing blades out of Sandvik. I think a Swindle may be in my future.

I agree with you, the Lake 111 is a nice blade. Great buy for the money.
