Request: If you know or can measure the thickness behind the edge of the knives listed, please post.

Hi all,

Since I joined this forum little over a year ago, I have purchased several folders including my first Spyderco, my first midtech, and my first CRK, all thanks to your help.
I think now that I finally come down to my likings, a thin slicer.
More specifically, I like a 3.25~3.75” liner/frame lock folder with a blade around 0.1” thick.

Then I realized that there are not so many production or even midtech (liner/frame lock) knives with thin blades.
The modern folder market seems to be infested with thick overbuilt blades.
I am not saying it is wrong but would like to see more diverse options in the market.

So here I make a short list of knives with the following specifications: 3.25~3.75” liner/frame lock folders with blade thickness below 0.11”
I know that this is a very discriminative list, ignoring knives slightly off from the specifications (like a lot of Benchmade knives of which typical blade thickness is 0.12”).
This list is mostly for my own reference, but I hope that it helps anyone with similar preferences.

Of course I must have missed a lot of knives.
If you have knives not on the list in mind, please suggest.

List now exported to Google Docs

Good thread !
I see you got that Urban Trapper in there. I came "this close" to ordering one of them lately. BUT like I said, I have too many knives with round holes cut in the handles . . . for now . . .

Off topic; it won't be too long and I will just buy what ever knife I like and power grind (very slowly and carefully) to the insanely thin blade thickness that I like. Talking 1.5 mm to 2mm.
Yah, yah, I know . . . like an old AND WISE friend once said to me, while trying not to laugh and call me an idiot : "Well that's certainly ambitious".

Benchmade Volli - 0.10" Thick Blade

It is a fantastic slicer.

Thank you for the inputs, tantrik77 and azkyakr!
I have updated the list (I put Volli to others because of the lock mechanism).

Benchmade Torrent and HK Nitrous Blitz are both fantastic knives that fit your criteria.

If you can live with 3mm stock you could add so many more great blades - ZT450, Spyderco Double Bevel, Al Mar Shrike (actual rather than advertised blade is only 3.75), BM 761. There are probably many others, but those are in my collection.

Of those I mentioned, the ZT450, Torrent and Blitz see the most carry time.

Thank you for the comment, Wowbagger.
I would make my own custom if I have the skill in grinding.......

I would imagine it is a bit difficult to work within that tight of margin for the lockup portion of the blade, thus the tendency for a thicker blade stock for Walker/Reeve types. I don't know the dimensions, but my Mini AFCK has one of the thinnest blade stock dimensions of any liner/frame lock I have.

I agree. That might be a reason for thin liner/frame lock knives being rare.
But you are right that Mini AFCK's blade is 0.10" thick, thus it can be done for major manufacturers.

How do you justify leaving out the Kershaw Leek? Sliciest knife ever.

Yes. Leek has a 0.09" thick blade but is short in length.
I added it to Other notable knives.
Thank you for the suggestion.

You left out the Victorinox 111mm series. I'm pretty sure they fall in your paramaters and you can get a single blade with a clip. One caveat, they're for lefties, so lefties can rejoice, a left handed OHO that doesn't cost an arm and a leg to own.

You are right, bt93.
Actually I do own a Victorinox Hunter XT and forgot about it......
Thank you for the suggestion!

List expanded to include knives with non-liner/frame modern locks such as Axis.

If you want to go super old school, I have a Douk-Douk (0.10") in my kitchen that gets used pretty much every day.

I looked up the Knifecenter site, and the only info regarding the blade thickness is that it is 0.12" thick.
Can you verify that yours is thinner?
