List of ZTs that Don't Have Lock Failure Issues

Don't bother spine whacking the knife because that would probably not be a normal function for any folder to pass.

Well, I've done that to chip ice off of things I didn't want to stab or cut, and I used the knives because that's what I had at the time. Not normal, sure, but I have also put knives to normal use cutting things in confined spaces and, yes, banged spines against unyielding surfaces. So far I have all of my fingers. (Then again, no ZTs...) One of the knives I used was a Benchmade/Emerson with a liner-lock (yes, it once had horrible lock stick).

First thing I did when I was purchasing my ZT 0462 cf was to whack it on my palm 3 or 4 times. It locks up at about 25% but will not budge during spine strikes. I did slice my thumb tip open while trying to close it one handed and bled all over the counter. I never owned a knife that dropped shut that easy up until then. It's my favorite flipper for now

Don’t have an issue with my 0462, but I’m cautious about purchasing ZTs now. I haven’t read of ZT admitting or addressing the issue of lock failure with their knives.

Since the list of Zero Tolerance models having lock failure issues is so long, it may be easier to list the models that have NOT had issues.

After reading several threads, I haven't seen reports of the Les George or Ken Onion collabs being affected. I also heard the 0470 is good to go.

Any others?
The premise of this thread isn't even close to valid. I've had no issues with any of the zts I own, so all those models are okay

0550, no problems despite abusing it after watching the vininull video.

0566, no problems. Was my true EDC for over a year. Very heavily used at work. Still a healthy beast.

0562, no problems. Was carried and used for work 5-6 days/week for about two years.

0609, no problems. Carried and used often at work.

All tested with absurdly abusive spine whacks. No fails or slips.

That’s all of my ZTs.

Only ZT I've had any kind of lock failure with was my 0630, but it had very light lockbar pressure. Had to send it to ZT because a body screw stripped completely when I tried to get it apart. It was over torqued from the factory. I've had at least 20 other ZT models with no issues, and counting multiples at least 32 without issue.

If you don’t want to have a chance of lock failures on any brand and if you’d like to dance the fine line of abuse testing it to the limits then I would highly suggest a fixed blade and then you can baton until your little heart desires :D

On a side note I’ve had probably upwards of 15 ZT’s over the years and never had a lock failure , weak detent or any other issues. With that being said I don’t abuse them or chop down trees . If I need something for that I’ll carry a fixed blade like a Barkie or similar.
