Listing of all-black Kershaw knives

For anyone who is interested, I have removed the following knives from the all-black list:

Vapor Black plain blade (1640BLK)
Vapor Black serrated blade (1640BLKST)
Vapor II Black plain blade (1650BLK)
Vapor II Black serrated blade (1650BLKST)

Despite the 'BLK' designation, I would definitely consider the Vapor and Vapor II that I have to be grey and not black, unlike the Vapor III, which IS black. If there are actually BLACK Vapor and Vapor II's, besides the grey ones, please let me know!

For anyone who is interested, gpknives is listing a Q3 availability for the Kershaw/Emersons... kind of disappointing, glad I didn't go for the BladeHQ preorder...

Looks like you are missing the Mini Cyclone 1636TIZDP.

Thanks, always looking for anything I have missed, but unless I am mistaken, the 1637TIZDP has a titanium colored handle, not black, and I am specifically trying to list just the models that are completely (handle and blade) black in this list.

Anyone have any idea what steel this is? Most of my Kershaw's have the steel on the blade but this one does not...I bought it as 1570-B, see box, but it seems this may not be the right box but the knife is an Avalance with Black blade. Any help would be appreciated since I have seen them with a few different steels but am worried that this may be a cheaper version, if one was made???

I guess it is obviously the incorr box since it seems to be serrated, I have not taken the blade cover off (just got it today) but still seems strange...maybe a fake?

The Speedsafe is smooth and the blade is well centered, etc. so if it is a fake, it is good one!

Well, I don't want to definitively call it a fake, but here is some info and photos of my Avalanche:

First of all, to my knowledge, there is only one Avalanche model and that is the 1570. This knife features a black blade and no serrations. There is no serrated version of this knife that I am aware of, but you seem somewhat unsure if yours has serrations or not? The blade is marked with model# 1570, which would be correct, there is no 1570B, and that would also be inconsistent with how Kershaw generally identifies their black blades (either with BLK or CTK after the model#). Since the Avalanche was only produced with a black blade, they just went the the plain model#.

I do not have the box for my Avalanche. The UPC code on your box is the UPC code for the Kershaw Avalanche. However, of the five other boxes I have that are the same style as the one you picture, none of the have a sticker like the one you picture, they are all like the one in my picture, with a Kershaw logo under the bar-code, etc. The font on your sticker looks 'wrong' to me in several aspects, The Kershaw logo beneath the model# looks very flattened. Is the green section a sticker applied over the sticker? If so, it could be a sticker a dealer put on it for some reason, if not, I've never seen a model# in green like that. Also, Kershaw would not start the model# with a "KE-".

The front of your Avalanche looks pretty consistent with mine. When we look at the back, there are a number of issues. Mine is dated "Aug 08", though this date is not visible with the blade open. The steel is listed as 'S30V' and it states "Made in USA". The patent number listed on your blade is a patent for "Opening and closing assisting mechanism for folding knife" issued to Ken Onion and KAI. Kershaw DOES change the markings on their knives over time on models that have been in existence for a long time, but I don't think the Avalanche was available for that long. (Also, the color of the the model# on your blade compared the the text below it strikes me as wrong...).

Looking at the back side of the handle, my Avalanche has a completely different pocket clip and, very important I think, holes at the bottom of the handle allowing reversal of the position of the clip, which your Avalanche lacks. I'm not an expert on Kershaw pocket clips, but the clip on yours does not look like a Kershaw clip to me, the hole pattern is non-standard and the hole in the center for what appears to be access to the pivot screw I would call non-Kershawish, plus the pivot screw on that side of my Avalanche (not visible in pics because it is under clip) is black and completely flat.

Adding all that up, it does seem to be a counterfeit to me, especially if it actually IS serrated. But of course, that is just my opinion based on the data I have presented.

It's just an older 440v model Avalanche. I have a few, some say 440v, but the very early ones don't. Also the early ones weren't dated either. The DLC blade on a non S30V is a new one to me.

Also there was a "st" model.

All Avalanches had high end blades either 440V or S30V. Some were even labeled S60V right before they changed over to S30V.

Thanks for the info, I am always happy to be corrected in pursuit of the truth! I will have to look into this...

(EDIT): Well, crap. I am now finding a 1570 model in both black and satin blades and at 1570ST serrated in both black and satin blades! Kershaw, why do you do this to me!

I received two new all-blacks today!

Kershaw Emerson (1).jpg

Kershaw/Emerson CQC-8K and CQC-3K tantos (thanks Dave!)...

Anyone know what the difference is between the 1760BW and the 1760CKT? Is the 1760CKT what the BW version starts out as?
Forgive me if this has already been addressed elsewhere. Thanks.

List is not abandoned... made a model number correction today and added some additional knives...

Added Cabela's exclusive Kershaw Tanto Groove all-black knife, model# currently unknown, but I have one on the way (NOTE: the blade is NOT grooved like the Groove Tanto).

So, did anyone happen to see the Tilt that was up for auction on eBay recently (no, I'm not talking about the one were the idiot keeps raising the price every time it doesn't sell, though now he seems to have settled on $4000)? After posting it, the owner decided to take some more pictures... AND HE DROPPED IT AND BROKE A SMALL PIECE OFF THE TIP :hororr:  :barf: :nightmare: :( ! He said he felt sick. I contacted him and said I felt sick for him, which I HONESTLY DID, but I told him I would probably bid on it and wished him luck. It was a pretty small piece though and I figured this would probably be my best chance to ever get a Tilt at a price I could afford. I had my snipe program all set up... and about a minute before the auction was due to end, I remembered I had changed my eBay password since I had last used the snipe program! ARRGGGHHHH! I think I still would have been outbid though, after deciding to lower my bid from what I was first thinking of bidding... :(

And speaking of Tilts on eBay, what about that pimped one that was up for auction recently... all the freaking markings/serial# were removed from the blade! INSANITY! :jerkit:

So, in an effort to control my current Knife collecting obsession, which has been flying all over the place, I am trying to focus on Kershaw knives (which I generally love) and, in particular, all-black Kershaw knives. For my purposes, I define all-black as having black handle scales and a black blade. Non-black pocket clips and/or hardware are acceptable. For my purposes, black-washed blades do not count as black.

I have only started collecting knives relatively recently, so I figure they may be a lot of Kershaw knives in this category that were discontinued long ago that I have not heard about. but based on my own research and the excellent (though outdated) list of Kershaw knives posted by Leek_Freak in this thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/899650-Discontinued-Kershaw-ZT?highlight=1620dam, I have come up with the list below, which I think is pretty complete, but if there is anything missing, or anything that should not be in here, I'd love to hear about it!

(P.S. I want an unofficial Kershaw collector's forum! 🦶)

Considering all of the all-black Kershaws that I've seen and own and have previously owned, it will be a challenging task to complete this list.

I haven't scanned the entire list but did notice that you are missing the Shallot 1840CKTDAM, since the blade is a black damascus. This knife which is one of 3 all-black Shallots that I own; the other 2 the 1840CKT and 1840CKTST.

eyJidWNrZXQiOiAiZmlsZXMua25pZmVjZW50ZXIuY29tIiwia2V5IjogImtuaWZlY2VudGVyL2tlcnNoYXcvaW1hZ2VzLzE4NDBDS1REQU0uanBnIiwiZWRpdHMiOiB7InJlc2l6ZSI6IHsid2lkdGgiOiA3NjAsImhlaWdodCI6IDQxNSwiZml0IjogImNvbnRhaW4iLCJiYWNrZ3JvdW5kIjogeyJyIjogMjU1LCJnIjogMjU1LCJiIjogMjU1LCJhbHBoYSI6IDF9fX19

There are also 6 silver handled Shallots in my collection and an XXXX version of the 1840CKT that I keep as a "user."

I do not collect commercially branded versions of any knives because there's really nothing different about them except the branding, so I do not own the Daniel Defense branded Shallot and personally I would omit any such knives from the list.
