Little Black Dress..

Oh man...
I just got another callous from reading this thread. :D

Some people are just argumentative by nature.
Doesn't translate very well to forum posts...

I'm all for new fans of BK&T coming in and contributing to the forums. That's what makes this place so awesome!
But if all you want to do is argue, bitch, moan, or complain?....It just turns you into an annoyance to others.
Nobody's asking anyone to "fit in"...
This is a place to come to celebrate Ethans knife designs and converse with fellow enthusiasts.
Not a place to argue, debate, and deride others. (In every other post...)
If that's all you want to do, more power to you. But it's not cute or clever in any way.
It's annoying.

Wow all the drama happens when I'm out of town. This is two in the same week. Oh and btw the bk2 is the "tank" :)

Perhaps the two are one and the same?

Probably will be funny when a troll turns around and says : 75 / 25 / 5 and a number as they ask to be a Beckerhead.

Maybe it's because I'm new here, as in only been posting for less than a week, but you guys seem to get some feisty trolls. I don't really understand it.

Nailed it.

Meritocracy

I admit Chris's vids on his BK7 and BK9 as well as stuff I read on here, sparked my interest and helped me make up my mind on getting the BK9.
Coming here has made me want the 5 which ill be getting soon. I want the new one that's coming out that looks like a khukuri.
So how can we find out about the Chris guy and the reason he left here? Anyone have a linky to some of it?

I've never even heard of this person. The knives piqued my interest, Mr. Becker's attitude and knowledge sealed the deal.

I guess I'll have to think of a name for my Machax.

You could call your BK4 Michelle. Actually don't. That's the name of my ex. And besides, if it were called Michelle it should be a fork. Because then it would resemble her tongue..

Just sayin if you search for BK9 on youtube he is the first video. preparedmind101 or something like that comes up with a bunch of videos about how he loves BK knives.

Haha one of my exs too! The Machax is thick at the top, not a small blade, but quick. I think Michelle is a fitting name... 👍

Can't wait to use it. The city is not the ideal environment for such a knife (or for me).

Oh ok. I don't use YouTube all that much.

Okay, this thread started innocently enough with discussion about the BK7 then somehow devolved into a discussion of a certain individual that is less than liked in these parts. For those that absolutely must know, he is disliked for a few reasons. Primarily is him starting a YouTube channel and passing off ideas from here as his own, something that happened quite often not just with this forum but others. He regurgitated the same stuff that almost every other outdoorsy/bushcrafty channel had, and rarely if ever was credit given to those it was due. That alone was sufficient reason to develop a dislike of the individual, but then in a claim of "how much he has done" he demanded that Ka-Bar "kick in" their fair share of knives for him. First off, Ka-Bar, at no point in time, asked him to advertise on their behalf. Being a self-appointed shill for them in no way shape or form obligates them to any thing. Secondly, a tantrum is not a mature nor reasonable way to deal with a fairly large company who probably would have been more than happy to donate some blades to the cause had he approached them in a reasonable manner. Third, despite his claims, he hasn't "done" that much for Ka-Bar or Becker knives. Ka-Bar keeps track of those that do, they keep track of where sales come from, and they deal with numbers that are far greater than anything he is likely to manage, even with a substantial YouTube following.

Ka-Bar sells to distributors, who sell to retailers, who sell to the public. Ka-Bar has their money from that knife long before you ever see it. What has done the most for Ka-Bar knives is current management, and they have done the most for Becker Knife & Tool, as has been stated. So wherever people get this idea that he is single-handedly selling massive amounts of knives for either company, they need to do some fact checking. That even on the outs with the Becker family here he still praises the BK7 speaks more to the knife than either him or those people here, simply because it is like all Becker knives, a fantastic knife.

That being said, I harbor him no ill-will, wish him well in his endeavors, and certainly take no issue with people that found their way here because of him.

I had a very, very long conversation at Blade show with a similar individual that had found Becker knives through that channel, and after some discussion we were able to get him setup with a knife more fitting for his needs and a good bit of information as well.

So that's it. This thread isn't about anyone aside from maybe Uncle E and his BK7. If it veers that route again, it gets locked.

Getting back on track, yes, the BK7 is in fact the "Little Black Dress" of the Becker lineup (IMO) which, unfortunately, makes it incredibly over-looked, under-valued, and quite honestly semi-ignored. I have used one several times, but I don't own one. I've never purchased one, nor am I likely to. Why? Simply because while it is a "jack of all trades master of none" kind of knife, I can achieve most of the same things with my 16, or my 9. I don't need a knife that fits in the middle as I have one at either end of the spectrum, and both of those perform flawlessly. I'm never in a "one knife for it all" situation because I carry more than one knife. I lose one, or break one, I still have another (or with my pack handy a few options).

seems like the 2 and the 10 are at a little odds...

and the 7 and the 9 a bit... esp with the "12" kicking it around...

i kinda like ramps...

i'd like a beefed up 4 myself, but perhaps that's not in the future... but thicker, and bring back the squared back, and original high grind.

the 5, so lovely, but again, make it like the original Blackjacks - that had some flair i think. that's me though, sounding off...

the 16 though. that's probably the super sweet point for many now.
