Little Boy

No, it is not so dangerous, probably exactly because people are free to carry guns. The most dangerous places are where carry is forbidden or strictly curtailed.

That fact is lost on some, they look around them, can't remember anyone attacking them and conclude there is no threat. Forgetting of course incidents like the Canadian who attacked a fellow bus traveler and cut his head off while the rest of the passengers ran for their lives, helpless to help the victim.

I am totally in favor of guns and though I am a New Yorker I am completely against gun control but. I do not like to see an event like this bus killing. The people who allowed that to happen, who sat scared rather than helping that poor guy were cowards, in my book. I have seen people attacked on subways and busses and I for one have always tried to help the victim. It is sad that people need guns to feel like they can do something. I have helped others without even pulling a Busse, Courage and conviction are often sufficient, though not always. In the final analysis, it is one's heart, not weaponry, that decides the day.

It would be hard to maintain order without people being able to defend themselves. The bus incident is a good example. During the actual killing the murderer took his time and maintained control.

It was only when the bus had stopped and when the truck driver handed out tools that could be used as weapons that they were able to detain the murderer. Had they not done that he may have gone on with another slaughter, or would have escaped.

Had there been a passnger(s) with a gun it is unlikely the killer would have had as much time. The other thing about a well armed public is that it is a deterant to criminals.

Great story, David! Gives me hope for the future.

As a lady who does carry in Arizona, I'd have to agree that a large part of the reason I do and have for many years is because I can. I come and go at odd hours, am almost always alone, and I consider it as logical as carrying emergency supplies in my vehicle--because you just don't know what will happen. I have been attacked only once, while coming home from work, and I can say definitively that my weapon and willingness to defend myself prevented a bad thing from happening...because unfortunately it did happen to someone else a month later. (Our justice system at work...I lost my weapon and the jerk walked, only to victimize someone else.)

Oh, and I really enjoy the renewal sessions for my concealed carry permit---seriously! Lots of fun, and good reminders for things like maintaining situational awareness.

Great story Dave.

I must say that if he were wearing it here the TRG and Dog Squad would be there in a flash. :D

It just shows how our firearms laws have repressed the good citizens of Australia.

Any room for an Aussie there in America.:D

Most gun accidents in the home involveing children are when a child finds a gun that is hidden and he has never seen it before plus it is loaded. In homes that contain guns INMHO childeren should be educated on guns and taught that they are not toys or objects to be played with they should be taught the 3 basic rules that all guns should be treated as if they are always loaded even if they are not or someone tell you they are not 2 never point a gun at anything you are not willing to destroy including sweeping youself 3 never put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to discharge the firearm with a safe background. I have 4 children and my house is filled with guns. I only keep guns loaded in a lock box and if I take a gun off when I get home if it is loaded it goes in a lock bag. I have taught my children about guns and have told them that if they ever want to see one to ask and I will take the time to show it to them. I tell them I will beat there ass if I ever catch them touching a gun with out my permission. The problem is when friends come over and that is when the gun education comes into play. My children know what can happen and in a moment a terrible accident could happen that can never be erased. Like I said in the begining it is when a child finds daddy's gun loaded in a sock draw or closet they do not know if it is real or a toy and bang a horrible incident occurs. I was brought up this way and my children are being brought up this way. With over 1.5 million violent crimes in this country luck favors the prepared and I am glad I live in a carry free state and I can protect my family. I hopefully will never have to use a weapon to protect my family but I would rather carry and never use than to need it and not have one.

I'm pro guns. I keep them locked up in a gun cabinet or I use trigger locks. But parents who don't teach their children about guns, then leave them out in the open, so their kids can accidently shoot themselfs or other kids ought to be strung up in the town square.

AMEN BROTHER!!!

It's about knowledge, education & respect!!

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—An 8-year-old Connecticut boy who accidentally shot himself with a machine gun was remembered at a funeral Mass as an adventurer who loved the outdoors.

Christopher Bizilj (bah-SEAL') died Sunday when he lost control of a 9 millimeter Micro Uzi he was trying out at a gun show at the Westfield Sportsman's Club in Massachusetts.

Neither his father or the instructor were assisting him.

So sad....responsibility?????

WHOA

My question is.... WHY in the world is a gun loaded at a GUN SHOW??? That should never be allowed, and in fact, is NOT allowed around here. ALL weapons are to be locked OPEN and UNLOADED. This accident, IMHO, is the fault of the person displaying the weapon, A) for having it loaded, and B) for not keeping tabs on a loaded weapon. My heart goes out to the family, but again, the father should be keeping track of HIS son....

I reitterate, it's about KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION & RESPECT.

Just my 2-cents worth!!

Hi Everybody

So I went to lunch with my buddy Art and when we sit down a little boy (around 4) points at him and asks his mother, "mommy, why does that man have a gun?"

She answers "they let you carry gun's in Arizona honey."

She then says to the boy very sternly "you'll never bring a gun into my house, I don't care how old you are!"

The boy looks at his mother and says very seriously "Then I'll move!"

Gave me hope for this country in the years to come.

The little guys sister also spoke up (after "Mommy" kept going on & on about how guns are not allowed in her house & does not want dead kids)
and said "but the guns do not do anything bad, it is just some bad people do bad things with them."

True story.

Thanks, thought you all would like it.

I wish more politicians were as smart as a 4 year old.

Those same people could have had their OWN big knife with them.
Or a club.
The sort of people who run from danger will still run from danger if they have a gun.

This was not a Gun Show in the sense of what you mean. It was more along the lines of the machine gun shoot at Knob Creek. It was correct and proper for the gun to be loaded in this instance. The father had paid for the opportunity for his son to shoot the gun.

The "Boy One" has been around firearms since he was a wee little lad. :D

(look at that finger :) )

Thanks, I stand corrected. I was only responding to the article as it was written. I do understand the situation as you have mentioned, still quite sad if he was not being attended to.
