Little Pig Sticker

Karda, I understand your position, but I think the post in question is not necessarily lacking in tact the way it's being implied it is. If he were holding a no-fly tape strip covered in deer flies, would we feel any different about it?

Not playing the semantics game. Does the post in question add anything really to the topic or was it basically a "look at me" post?
Aside from that was it something you would want your children stumbling across should they be allowed to read here?
Khukuri are ritually used in sacrifice every year, but by a UB decree we are still not going to allow graphic depictions of it on the forum.
I am not one with a weak stomach, but I do understand why such things may be found offensive.

Please lets just discuss the knife, which is actually the topic.

Thanks guys! :)

Matt- always the voice of reason/rationale... thank you my friend! :)

Greg- thanks for steering it back in the right direction! :)

IMHO, Cajun was just having a bit of fun with his first post. It didn't bother me, but I'm sorry if any of you folks were offended. With that said, I kindly ask that if you want to discuss something other than the knife... please take it to W&C or email. Thanks. :)

I am curious do you use the same basic HT procedures with 1084 as you do with W2, other than specific temperatures?

Greg- Yep, it's a very similar process. :)

In fact, the temps are all right in the same range. 1084 is a little more forgiving on temp control than W2, so it works well even if you just have a forge to heat it in. But if you have accurate & consistent temp control, then you can really get the most out of the steel. :)

You have hit another long ball, Nick, right out of the park.
Congrats on doing such brilliantly executed work and sharing it here.
The Sheoak is gorgeous and the stylish guard is perfect, love the belly on this blade..

Frankly, it's too long to be used as a hog hunter. I'd bet most guides wouldn't let you use it, as there's too much risk of over-penetration and possible injury to the catch dogs. Therefore I wouldn't suggest this knife be used for hog hunting - it's not ethical to risk hurting puppies. Better, Dork...?

I'm not sure what most guides would say because I've never been on a guided hunt but generally speaking, your statement is completely FALSE...

Matter in fact, the new thing is Swords. This Wheeler Bowie would be great for hunting Hogs. Truth is most of what we kill is around the 200lb range with a couple upwards of 300. This knife wouldn't even come close to complete penetration on our primary targets. I wouldn't think twice about using it. Bet it would sink in like cutting through hot butter.

Nick gets it and that's all that matters because it was only for his entertainment.

Another gorgeous piece! Your attention to detail really shows. Some day I'd love to get to see your work in person.

Thanks again guys. :)

RI_shooter: the main bevels were sanded to 320X, and the choil, spine, and clip were sanded to 800X (it sounds like a big difference on paper, but it's just a slight difference in scratch pattern and color in hand).

Mark: Thanks buddy. :) It's a tough call, because I like shiny! ;) :D But a "black blade" is more likely to get used for the original intended purpose, so I have love for both styles. :)

I love "the machine finish and black m*#?! handle" on my little Wheeler Fighter but, needless to say, enjoy all of Nick's work and virtually NOTHING surpasses his hand-rubbed works with exotic wood handles and those killer domed-pins, kinda like this one

IMHO, everyone needs a Wheeler in each of his styles and finishes.....gonna talk him into one of his amazing blades with what's got to be some of the finest hamon's on the Planet one of these days when he doesn't have anything better to do....yeah, right! ;) :D

I received this knife today, it far exceeded my expectations. I had to write to thank Nick he is a Class Act. There were two threads about this knife and I read them both a few times. I was looking for words to describe this knife and how I felt after seeing it but I was at a loss. So I thought i'd just use some other peoples words that I found in these 2 threads.
