Little Rock Show Winners

Hi Bill,

I didn't have a table this year so I could get some business done. Early on I try not to talk with anyone so I can look at all the knives. I find if I stop and say hi to everyone I get nothing done.

I was only at the show on Saturday. Apparently 8 hours wasn't enough time to get everything done.

BTW, congrats on your award.

Congratulations to all the winners! It was a great show, fun time and lots of outstanding knives. Here's a pic I snapped of (L to R) Jeff Royer (Kyle's dad), Kyle and John White. Feel free to make up your own caption! ;)

Regardless of who gave the award, it's a beautiful piece of handle material.

Not disputing that, Kevin, as we both agree that the base material looks great.

Simply clarifying the reality for Mr. Lisch that the award is given by a company looking to promote the use of giraffe bone.

Best Regards,

Kyle those are great pictures, tell Caleb thank you. It was a good weekend and we are looking forward to next year.

Congrats guys!

Did I miss it? What the heck is the handle on Ron's knife?

Love the maker shots... great stuff. :)

Maybe I'm missing something here but the award for " Best Giraffe Bone" is given by the "Arkansas Custom Knife Show" not a sponsor.

The fact that the award is sponsored ( if you look at the show list every award category has a sponsor) by an industry participant does not in my opinion diminish the award in any way, shape , or manner.

If you choose to read this as a denigration of the award Paul, I can't help you...

Mr. Lisch made a statement enthusing on giraffe bone, using the giraffe bone award as an indication that giraffe bone may be making a "comeback" or some such.....for the second time, I'll point out that the award(fine, not given) is SPONSORED by a company looking to promote giraffe bone...is this too hard for people to understand?....it is not a negative....it is a fact...without any prejudice or opinion.

Out of courtesy to Kyle, I suggest we either change the subject or end on a positive note.

Here's Chuck Ward working behind the camera at the AKA show last weekend. I look at his knife images above and marvel at what he's done. They just look great.

I saw all of those knives up close and can tell you that Chuck has faithfully reproduced the knives as they actually appear. That may seem an obvious point but... :o ...it doesn't always happen that way for those of us who have photographed a bunch of knives. (SbC, am I right?)

Hi Buddy,

First time I have seen Chuck's setup. It a house of cards, to be sure, but the complexity is what works for him. Chuck's photos (and the ones posted on this thread are great current examples) always have abundant lighting.

It's obvious that this takes more than a $75 'No-Frill's' studio, or a store bought cocoon to acheive it. There is no one better at achieving blade finishes in this method. Look at Bill Buxton's fighter to see that.

Chuck's work makes the makers and the knives look their best. I agree!

BTW, there is a great photo of all the show winners (Thanks Caleb). What? No mention of what Gail Lunn won?? Enlighten me. She always does a great job!

That actually appears to be a little more elaborate a set-up than I have seen Chuck use in the past.
