That is a beauty of a knife but it's not EDC until it's been used. Until it's used, it jewelry. Let see a bunch of tape residue, scratches and meat & veggie patina on it very soon! :)

I do use it but I don't do much. My life isn't really all that exciting, I sort of am on the computer a lot and try to hit the gym daily, that's my routine. I don't hunt and don't have much time to fish anymore. So I don't do much. I don't mind if it gets dirty and scratched up because I can always send it back to the spa and it becomes like new...
So for those that think I have a exciting life fighting crime or something, sorry to disappoint. But if I get a chance to do something where I can carry and use it, I will.
Thanks for the comments.

In honor of this holiday you should head out for a quick baton session with your knife! You gotta have kindling for a fire tonight!

That, and a pic of it with some BBQ sauce on it. Everyone knows Independence Day and BBQs go hand in hand.

Baton with a knife with fossil ivory?????

Users are users, but that would be just plain silly. Save the micarta and G-10 for baton and impact work. Ivory is light duty at best. On-the-edge said it, cut some BBQ with that beast and I'd be happy! :D

I have put a few thousand rounds through my 45 with unstabalized mammoth bark ivory. Is that silly??? :) Happy 4th LeatherMan!

I didn't get to spend my 4th of July in the woods but instead spent it in NYC. You should come down here sometime and I'll show you around. There is lots of culture to take in. Batoning with a Meaner is like going Bear hunting with a BB gun. I just don't see the point in it but if you want to learn what types of knives are for what, feel free come come join me. I got this nice tree picked out in Prospect Park in Brooklyn that I think needs to be chopped down. It must have fell down in a storm or something. But i'm getting too old and I think it would be nice to share the experience. I'll bring a FFBM and a BWM, you can chop it in half with each of the two blades and give us your review. I'll film and document the whole thing, it'll be a great learning experience for all =)

Not the same thing my friend, well unless you use the butt of the gun as a hammer. That would just be plain wrong.

No quicker way to bust up a really nice set of ivory scales than to hit them with something hard multiple times, or once :o I dropped a chunk of ivory on my floor a while back, broke my heart and wallet. :(

I hear you. I would never hit ivory period :). That makes me sad too. Destroying something so naturally beautiful and worthwhile. Sorry you had bad luck. That feeling in your stomach when you drop something.

Anyhow, I am just saying ivory isn't like delicate china. I believe there are different grades of it and some less likely to naturally be stronger then others. I could be way off. Either way I can't and won't argue with ur personal experience. It actually makes me want to take off the ivory grips when I go to the range now.

Btw, I use a splitting axe ;-p

Take it easy friend.

Quite sure I have plenty of chopping material here in Alaska to learn on but thanks for the invite. I love the smaller blades for making kindling. Quite a bit easier to control the knife.

I would love to see a pic and video of this tree and the knives chopping it down. I think everyone would be impressed with a tree getting whacked down in Brooklyn!!!!

Not my knife but some other battoning fool!

Here is a pic of my EDC knives and some choppers. None of the other finishes hold up like jungle green.

Oh yea, that awful feeling in the pit of the stomach is awful, and it begins as soon as the item leaves the hand and you know in your heart that something bad is going to happen and there's nothing you can do about it. I had, note "had" a mint A2 Police Recruit, that old coating is hard but brittle. Ceramic tile in my shop, not a great thing sometimes. :p Thinking about putting rubber matting in key areas.

The ivory I had didnt shatter but it cracked and spidered everywhere and little pieces broke off on the impact area. Your right about different qualities, I bet it has something to do with the health of the animal as the tusk grows. I have a couple of pieces are are very tough, but they are pre ban modern ivory which seems to be more resistant than fossil ivory to impact.

Ivory probably isn't a good choice for a EDC blade. I guess if you never use it, it's a moot point?
Sure is some pretty bling though!

Well, it seem everyone here think you can only use knives for food and chop wood. Try to think outside the box, food is not all that important to me. I chose this particular knife to carry on me for self defense.
This knife is a SLUT, and I guess for those of you that don't have one, you just won't understand unless you hold one. These made lighter and with a hollow grind for a different reason for me. It's like the knife and my hand is one... IMHO, you just don't split wood with a hollow grind but if you buy a knife, you can do whatever you want. So for those that have held this at Blade 2011, you know what I'm talking about. I picked this knife for the weight, balance and the way it can be held in my hands to do what I need it to. This knife is not for splitting wood or cutting food, I have other knives for that. One can't compare this to a military over run meaner, they are not even close to being the same. And usually where I go to eat, there are eating utensils for that.
For those that have a carrier's permit, you know what I'm talking about. It's better to have it and never use it, then need it and not have it. So in my case, no, I hope I never have to use it.

Do you wear the sheath on the small of your back or on your hip? Is the leather showing any signs of wear from EDC? The sheath looks amazing. I would love to have one of those sheaths for carrying in the small of my back for concealment but the ability to carry on my hip for hunting when I want to get at the knife continuously. I hope to get one of the thinner .140 game wardens at some point for concealed carry. No snag points on that knife. That is my only worry about the active duty/meaner style knives. I think that the lanyard end would snag on clothing if it was concealed.

Just saw this, if you have an idea, I have a no conditional warranty. We will figure out what you want, no worries.

I am emailing you about a sheath right now. I have wanted one for my leprechaun warden for ages anyways.
