Live and Learn - A warning about shipping / insurance and paypal

The thing NOT to do is as follows: if someone pays you and then asks you in an email to ship to another address which is not reflected in his PP payment, i.e, his place of business/he moved/his GF's/his mom's/his mom's GF/etc; DO NOT DO THIS! Refund the transaction and politely tell him to repurchase or to send funds again with the new address already added onto his PP. Again, do not accept other addresses give as a note with payment instructions. Most people are not nefarious but why take a chance. If they want it that badly, they will understand your policies and will repurchase under your terms.

Excellent advice.. One has to ship to the address listed on Paypal. Otherwise you have ZERO protection.

I had this happen with a large shipment of reptiles to a guy in Thailand. He used an address for a shipper in the U.S. to do the CITES paperwork to ship to hom overseas. I rfunded his money and told him he needs to set up his paypal to have the shippers address in the U.S.A (NOT HIS Thailand Otherwise I had no recourse with Paypal.

He did change his paypal to have the address I was shipping to and he eventually got his shipment from the US shipper.

Be very careful with overseas buyers as they know all the tricks!.

LONG STORY SHORT: The U.S. is a large country with a lot of people in it..if something can't be sold and shipped in the U.S. then it wasn't meant to be. I'll live with it.

I only agree with you on this when it comes to selling the knives which I no longer want or no longer need. I don't need headaches when it comes to International postal carriers, import rules & regulations regarding weapons, importing country's customs rules; etc...

However if I applied this exclusivity principle to my main online business which is selling classic cars parts, i would go under very quickly because most of my high $ item buyers are actually International buyers. When something is your main business, you will assess
the risks and rewards for yourselves. This is the same reason as to why knife dealers and makers ship internationally. However for those of us who just want to shift some money sideways to put into a different blade, not worth the potential risks. Just my 2 cents.
