Livesay Forum?

You know, I've been seeing so many postings about Wicked Knives and was wondering why we don't have a forum for Newt Livesay. Is it b/c he's too busy? I know a few forumites here who praise his work, and for me who's interest is growing, I find that a great way to see that this guy's knives get the attention they apparently deserve is a forum. Emerson and REKAT both have forums, and I visit them often, as both companies' knives interest me. By the same token, so do Newt's, but since the search command is now defunct, I can't find anything but the most recent stuff on Livesay's stuff. Anyway, who else would like to see this?

Reading between the lines of Mike Turber's and Kevin Schlossberg's posts on this type of question lead me to believe that the only thing stopping them from adding new forums is getting a moderator for that forum. They could add a BM forum anytime they want for example. But I believe they are waiting for a knowledgeable BM employee to moderate it. And the permission from a manufacturer/custom knife maker is also a possibility.

I think you are right on. Newts knives are growing on people and i think that there should be a Livesay forum.
do you own any of his blades. I own three. The little pecker and sop and then the air assualt. They all take a scary razor edge really easy and hold it a long time. he makes great blades and deserves a forum.
Just my thoughts

I have two Wicked blades and like them both very much. I plan to purchase additional knives from Newt. If there were a Wicked forum, I'd be a regular visitor.

I would love there to be a Livesay forum at blade Forums. I have one of his knives, but have not recived it yet.

Our "add a forum" policy is driven by 2 requirements. Often, a company will have one, but not the other, and as a result will not get a forum. Certain forums are under scrutiny right now to see whether they still fit our requirements.

Our two main requirements are:

1. Must have a represtative from the company who is willing to check the forums at least weekly and answer questions. We prefer daily or more, however, we can work with weekly as long as questions are answered.

2. The forum must have the traffic to warrant it's own seperate forum. Opening a new forum causes scrolling (something I don't like) and if there isn't enough traffic to justify adding a seperate forum, I don't want it taking up space.

I'm seriously considering compacting several forums right now, just FYI.

Newt has posted here but not for a long time. I suspect he just doesn't have the time to run a forum -- too busy making knives.

I own a G-45, and while I was not very pleased w/ its finish and chamfering (I removed the coating b/c my efforts at proper chamfering made the overall look unsightly) I must admit that the design was very nice. I've ordered an NRG and two Ti Tigers and have yet to receive those. I'm debating on a Woo, or asking Newt to recoat my G-45 OR ask him if he'd do a custom job for me. Although I'm not a fan of big knives (Seattle and its periphery frown upon overly large knives) like his +4" bladed models, I find much solace in the fact that he produces sub 3.5" blades as well. This is where I think the guy really shines. If he could start making up a multi carry system or a variety of sheaths available to the customer, his knives would be so much better. Besides that, he makes tings affordable, and from what I've heard from fellow forumites, his blades can suffer the Armageddon and still cut--even though they're not made of any of the "super steels," just 1095. That's why I really want a forum here, so we can tell him all of the good he's done, and what would make things even better. That, and for us to discuss the blades amongst ourselves.

That's too bad there isn't a moderator available (at least, that's what I assume is the situation), if Newt acquiesces, it would be perfect, wouldn't it? Is his gig a one-man shop, or does he have assistants? What about a VERY knowledgable forumite who's willing to receive info and updates about WKC from Livesay himself? That might be a sweet deal for that person--he/she might get to try out new WKC blades, etc. Parker, if you're reading this, I wonder what would prevent you from pouncing on this possibility.

Anyway, I'm glad I'm not the only one who's thinking like this.

Spark,

It's a good thing your not sysop at WB Message Center. There is some serious scrolling there and forums within forums within forums

WB is a special exception, it's designed more along the lines where every subforum is supposed to stand on it's own, instead of being mainly a subset of the whole.

We can do the same approach here later on down the line, but for now it's not really neccessary.

WB, well, it's got it's own problems there....

Newt definetly makes affordable blades...and may i venture to say that they are about any guy would need because i doubt they could be over-used. He is the kindest guy....and very helpful to me whenit comes to learning to make my own blades. The ICU is a great choice for knife. I have Air Assualt which is practically the same...just a hair bigger. It has plenty of mass for light chopping....also holds and edge extremely well. I had some old 1 inch hemp barn rope from my grandpas barn. I started cutting on it. I made 60 cuts all the way through and then checked the blade. I could tell the rope dulled it a little bit and it wasn't quite razor but the edge was brought back with my ceramic rod really quick. I would guess i have it sharpened at a ten degree angle on each side..i was pleased with it.
If you are talking about getting a knife from Newt that is around four inches then go for the sniper and the ICU. The Sniper is a stubby little thing that is hollow ground with the number 2 handle type. The number 2 handle type by Newt is really comfy and you don't get hot spots over extended use. it fits my hands(which are 4 inches across on the pads) and has a spot for the finger to go so you won't slip down the blade. CAn you imagine that?! geez it scares me...but i feel safe with how it is designed.
Sorry
I will shut up now

Lukers and Co., seems like you guys really like Newt's stuff. I wonder who else does. What's the Sniper? Have any scans? When you said sniper, I thought you meant Lynn Griffith's knife at first. What I'm really looking for is an IWB 2" to 3" bladed concealment knife (hence the Ti Tiger order). I just want a sheath that's compatible for that kind of carry. By the way, what's Newt's ID, so I know when he visits a forum? I'm asking b/c I think it'd be great if he saw this particular thread, seeing as how it might be a way for him to catch even more business (of course, that may mean a longer wait for our knives).

WITHOUT A DOUBT. I hope the powers that be don't ignore these requests for a Livesay forum. Newt Livesay and Wicked Knife Co. definitely ought to have one - of course only if Newt agrees.

The Primary things stopping us from having a Livesay forum is as follows:

1. Company Support: We need a representative from Livesay who will check in on the forums, and make sure that questions get answered. Jeff Randall has said that he has Newt's go ahead to moderate such a forum, however, Jeff does go into the Jungle 3-4 times a year, which will essentially leave the forum without a moderator, because Newt is busy making knives (which rightly is his primary concern).

2. Traffic. You need to have the traffic to justify the forum, or fill a niche.

3. Growing pains. We're trying to figure how to have all sorts of companies, without having 10 screens of forums to scroll through. I'll address this in a seperate thread.

We are aware of the desire for a Livesay forum, and we are considering it, we just need to make sure we can do so successfully.
