Living nightmare.

I had a similar experience the other day. I'm a teenager so I was trying to earn some money doing work for my neighbor. He was helping out a bit too, and, knowing I am into knives he said, lemme see a knife real quick. I handed him my ZT 0450 and he started hacking at a pencil with it trying to sharpen to pencil. I knew it could take it, but I baby my higher end knives so it was a little scary. There were a few scuffs on the blade but it was ok

If sharpening pencils is scaring our teenagers these days guys...I think it's time to worry.

Ummmmmm .. I know you are young, but hot damn!..
It might be possible that you might been on a koolaid trip, as I cannot imagine a pencil scratching a zt0450.

I'm sorry for your knife but think about it... you didn't asked him if you could "use" his daughter.... So sharp it, make a good laugh and go on!

ZT will replace the blade for $10 (you would have to send it in). But that's one option.

My first thought was "send it in to Zero Tolerance and have them refinish & resharpen the blade." But if they will replace the blade for $10 American, that's a deal that is just too good to refuse.

This incident was a valuable lesson for all of us: NEVER leave a high quality knife unattended where some douche-bag can grab it up and start cutting railroad ties, rocks, or cable with it! I know you love his daughter and he is your future father in law but sorry, he was being a douche-bag. A BIGTIME douche-bag.

As someone else suggested, he could use some familiarization with high quality knives and how to uses them/not use them. For a lot of people a knife is just a hand tool like a screwdriver. But for those of us in these parts, knives are a thing of beauty and a passion. Not everyone gets that (obviously).

Best of luck with your future father in law and your knife repair/sharpening!

That does it. From now on, I'm only using my 450 to sharpen my 452CF. Yeah, I'm going to start living the dream...er, um....nightmare.

Update: I've gotten it paper cutting sharp at this time. I gave my two weeks notice at my job (since I'm starting the academy for to be a CO) so I've had some free time. I've ignored most the posts complaining about my title. I've explained it, and I'm sick of taking the flak for that. I have a sebenza, and an umnum, but I think my most expensive knife is my Reate Valkyrie II...all which came sharp so I never worried about their edges. I'm still having a hard time getting it super sharp, but it's definitely much better than it was. To everyone that provided advice on the knife/sharpening thank you! To everyone that provided relationship advice, thank you but no thank you ha-ha. Hope you're all enjoying your Sunday's. Cheers.

My recommendation is buy a $10 knife and practice sharpening. Id still have my first Kershaw if I didn't completely screw the edge beyond repair.

You thank people for their knife sharpening advice, but "pass" on relationship advice, which you are obviously so little in need of ; priorities are perhaps somewhat reversed, but you do have a right to your own.

Seeing as it's a knife forum, I don't find that strange at all ;)

This is why I use my knives for what they were intended for; Cutting. I carry a used Barlow made in the 1970's that I got in trade or an Opinel. I have yet to find a task that I could not handle splendidly.
