Living nightmare.

You thank people for their knife sharpening advice, but "pass" on relationship advice, which you are obviously so little in need of ; priorities are perhaps somewhat reversed, but you do have a right to your own.
The relationship isn't the issue. I'm 23 and about to start the academy to be a corrections officer. I have a bachelors degree and I'm working on my masters. My girlfriend is a nursing student with one year left of school. She's the girl I'm going to marry, plain and simple. Her parents like me, her father didn't abuse my knife because I'm with his daughter. If they didn't like me, I would know, they aren't shy people. He used me knife because it was right there and he needed a tool. So yes I will decline the relationship advice, but I will accept sharpening critiques and criticisms. Thank you.

WOW, 23. I am soooo impressed! In all seriousness, I wish you the best; I wasn't much (if any) smarter, though as educated, at your age. :) May the wind be ever at your back. By the way, YOU brought up the knife damage by her father who is NOT your father-in-law.

He is not yet my father-in-law, no. Within the next few years he will be though. Her parents keep joking they're gonna put an addition on their house so that her and I can live there. Not too keen on that idea though haha

Soooo the lesson is don't leave your shit lying around... Keep it in your hand or in your pocket... Your fault, not his. LOL... seriously if you leave tools around they will be abused by someone, to your detriment. Don't put yourself in that position.

That said... get it fixed up and move on.... Spend your next bit of your knife budget on good sharpening system... or send them to Josh at Razor Edge... He'll sort them out better than new...

I was a corrections officer for close to 5 years. My granddad was one his whole life, my dad and my brother. Prisons are awful, not just for the inmates, but everyone involved from nurses to kitchen staff to the guys who man the wings. I wouldn't know where to begin, but you are in for a huge awakening.
Learn to sharpen, and you better learn to start taking little things like that way less seriously. Every day will be your chipped up edge x 99.
Best of luck.

I've already addressed the title many times. It was the first thing that popped into my head. Not mad he used the knife, more irritated I can't sharpen the knife. Now that I've addressed that again...

I want to be a police officer, this is just a stepping stone for me right now. Luckily I won't be at a maximum security prison (I live in MA), and I've done lots of reading on COs and prisons and the whole nine. It'll be challenging, which I like, and despite what I'm sure many of you think from this thread, I am a very patient person. But yeah I don't plan on being here until I retire, I'd really like do state police but living away from my girlfriend for 6 months would be an issue.

Consider it an investment to coming home every night again after that. Many of us are in or were in the military. 6 months away were routine. You also find out a lot about yourself while you are away like that, like what's important, who is important, who keeps in touch, who you can live without.

You definitely don't want to get stuck in the prison for ever, and one six month training will be ok. Think long term, like 5 years and 10 years where you want to be. Trust me, it is not working in a prison.

I'd say that you have displayed far more than patience in this thread, and from what I've seen, you appear to posses some of the very attributes that will serve you well both in corrections, and in law enforcement. Despite the fact that people have come at you every which way in this thread with criticism and condescension, you have kept your cool with no hint of anger or hypersensitivity.

I've seen several people on this forum over the years, many older than yourself, who lost their cool at the slightest criticism or challenge and resorted to name calling, insults, profanity, and other types of uncivil behavior that got them banned. The fact that you have taken everything that everyone has said in this thread without blowing up or having a meltdown says a lot of good things about you. That's my opinion anyways.

I have no experience as a corrections officer, but I do have experience as an inmate.

Best of luck to you. You appear to be a very mature young man who has a clear vision of his future and a willingness to commit to a long-term career path. How many other 23 year olds can say the same?
