Hey All!
As an avid bladesmith - I enjoy sourcing and making all of my own materials that I can for each of the knives I make. I have two saw mills locally that supply me with All sorts of New England domestic hardwoods. I take them, cut them down to rough blocks. From there they go into the dryer for a week and/or until their moisture content is under 2% (im old school and check this by weight, not a moisture meter).
If I am stabilizing the blocks - First they go under a 900 micron vacuum until all air bubbles stop. From there they go into my pressure vat for 6-8 days to fully impregnate the wood - without me growing old waiting.
If anyone is interested, they can be purchased off my site Valli Forge - Handle Scale Blocks
