1st Connecticut Wilderness Skills Gathering, Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27, 2008!

Hear ye, hear ye, hear ye!

All are invited to our 1st Connecticut Wilderness Skills Gathering, April 26-27, 2008! Hosted by Marty Simon, Kevin Estela, and Brian Jones, this will be the first of many, and -- if feedback is good -- we will host several per year!

Each gathering will focus on a particular skill or theme.

The theme for our first one will be primitive AND modern firemaking skills: Everything from bow drill, hand drill, flint and steel, to the latest techniques for the modern day. Also covered will be proper construction of a fire, firemaking in bad weather conditions, and more!

As an extra bonus, we may also set up ropes if you'd like to try your hand at basic climbing and rock climbing, time and conditions permitting.

Also, since we will be there both days, we will be happy to answer any questions or cover any other skills of interest to the attendees as well.

Location will be either Monroe or Shelton, CT (exact location to be determined). You can come either Saturday OR Sunday, or you can camp out overnight with us Saturday night and stay both days. Overnight camp details, including what you need to bring food and equipment-wise, will be forthcoming.

The cost is free, however, we may have to take small donations to cover costs of the site - that will be determined when we lock-in one of the two potential locations.

More details to be added soon.

Email us at: ctwildernessgathering "at" yahoo.com if you are planning on attending, or have any questions or concerns.

If I can bring my friendly and very well-behaved dog, I'll be there.

If we end up at Webb Mtn. (shown in pics), dogs allowed if leashed, licensed, and vaccinated (their rules), and only one dog per campsite.

Brian, thanks for posting these pics of CT. I grew up in CT and not many people here (Colorado) believe me that places like that exist in CT.

Have fun everyone!

gcg,

Show 'em the pics! Maybe we'll have one schedules when you come back to visit!

Brian, Any chance that we could also take this opportunity to have a swap n sell? Folks could bring up pertinent gear and it would be the ideal time for like minded folks to exchange gear/try others' out/ buy or sell IME. Could be over morning coffee everyday, or tailgated in the lot. Just putting this out there, rather folks I know get my extra gear at a decent price than an unknown entity on the other end of FeeBay..PUKE noise!

Sounds fine to me, 1Tracker. Swaps usually happen at these things whether planned or not!

Hey guys,

This is going to be a great rendezvous! I'm excited it will be held here in my native CT. I'm already planning and prepping for the various clinics to be held and I guarantee everyone will leave with some new found knowledge of the outdoors. I look forward to the brain exchange and skills swap that will take place. Hopefully this first event will have a great showing and only grow with time.

Probably should also point out impromptu "trade blankets" are usually the norm for this type of event. Bring your gear if you want to trade or sell it. I'll have a bunch of gear to swap and you're all welcome to check it out.

As Brian pointed out, please make sure to register (RSVP) to the E-mail listed above. We want to know how many to prepare for.

See you guys in April.

Kev

I so much want to go to this. As far as I know I can do it but my wifes birthday is that week so I will have to see when we are going to celebrate it. Its her 50th
