locking folders: should they be flick-able?

To Don, I am done hijacking this thread. however, I love that you are telling me all about NYC when you haven't even been there.

As for the statistical sample, we can look at it two ways. Combined with my father we have had over 15000 days to be accosted and need a weapon, and it never happened. Thats a sample size of 15000 opportunities. If you count my grand parents, my sisters, my uncles, etc..We would hit over 200,000 days.

And no, I'm not a hatchetman. I haven't ever even heard of that job outside of TV.

Btw, for a guy with over 7,000 posts here, you are awfully belligerent and insulting.

Yeah, looks like it! :D

That's funny, I don't see where I have said anything from personal experience I have had, I never claimed that at all. I am talking about the known reputation of a major city. Also from other people's experiences.

Strike Two for you this morning. Sucks to be you I reckon. :)

Or we can look at it as a statistical samping of two, can't we? :D

Three and you're oooouuuuttttt!!! :D

Bully for you!

It took well over a hundred people just like you to make me that way here. Thanks! :D

Since my biggest crime was expressing a different opinion without hostility or being insulting, I am sure what you are taking so much pride in.

There are about 8.3 million person-days every day of the week in the 300 square miles of NYC, due to population.

On topic, I like to be able to flick my locking folders, and not be able to do that to my slipjoints :)

Anybody know how strict they are in upstate NY? I'm nearby and have a Manix 2 in the mail headed my way.

As for the NYC area, does flickable mean with wrist action alone, or with the thumb as well?

you should be able to be able to completely flick out a good tactical folder with a comfortable amount of thumb tension, with no wrist movement. and it should not open at all with wrist movement alone.

My RAT-1 is like that - so much fun to flick it open with my thumb and hear it click, what a smooth opening folder it is!

Sorry for the behavior of Rearic.
He is one of our biggest trolls. One day we will get sick of his antics and get rid of him.

I'm sorry you feel that way Gus.

I'm not a troll, however. I know you have been beating that drum for quite some time but if you actually read what I write in other areas instead of only stuff like this, you would see that I contribute a lot and I am hardly a "troll" by Bladeforums standards.

Of course, you can call me that and I have no recourse. You can insult me, but I cannot hurl one back because that's against the rules, isn't it?"

Now, will defending myself be considered "sassing" you?

There is no defense regarding your trolling here. Insulting people is trolling and I will not accept it in the general forum.

You insult new members, thus you ARE A TROLL. That is not an insult, it is a fact based on your behavior.

Should you wish to continue with your childish insults in this forum there will be a price to pay.

I suggest you stop. Want to complain regarding my actions take it to service and support.

I bought one in black plain edge and satin plain edge.

The black model barely takes a nudge and a roll of the wrist and it cracks open like lightning by inertia.

The satin model is so stiff (even with both side pivot screws loosened all the way out) that I almost cut my thumb on the darn thing every time I open it.

This happens from my thumb shoving the stud so hard and then slipping off the thumbstud onto the rear of the blade's edge - go figure huh?

Mine is the satin plain blade version - I may have got lucky and got a really good one? I don't roll my wrist or anything, I just push on the thumb stud and with enough pressure to start opening the blade I end up pushing it right out to fully opened. I keep playing with it hoping I wont go blind! As well as opening and closing it for the pleasure of how it operates I also sharpen it on the strop a lot - I have been able to split hairs and even get some nice curls off a strand of hair.

I don't want any problems here, so if I said something/acted in a way that was unacceptable it was unintentional.

Honestly, I know nothing about knives. I found this website, and I noticed that there is a wealth of knowledge. Kinda like thehighroad.org for firearms. I look forward to doing my own knife give aways when I actually have an idea of what I am doing.

Mine's sitting in the box, I should get it out and play with it for a few hours - maybe loosen it up.

A skill I haven't acquired yet, I'm impressed!

Well considering that my collection consists of a mini-grip which I can't carry in NYC anyway, and I am still clueless, you might have to wait a bit.

They are much more laid back about that kinda stuff. Don't be flashy with it and you should be all good

And grats on the Manix2

A Mini Griptilian is a nice start. I have two of the full size Grips and love both of them. You'll probably be able to use it if you camp or hike out of the city though right??? If so, it's a good excuse to make some "away" time!

The best way to find out is to ask a local cop or call your local PD and ask them exactly what is permissable in a "pocket knife" I'd imagine (and not for self defense purpose of course). I doubt they'll trace your call and crash through the door. :)

I have a family member that sells knives, pepper spray, stun guns, telescopic steel batons, kubotans, blow guns, pistol crossbows ninja stars, wrist rockets, hidden pen knives, etc....and the only items not allowed to ship to New York (City & State) are pepper spray which is sold at a pharmacy and stun guns.

32 years living in NYC and I never seen pepper spray or stun guns sold anywhere in NYC. And know I here they sell them over the counter in other states. lol thats crazy.
The only knife that they let you have on your person is a knife about 3 inches and you have to open the blade with 2 hands like the old buck knives.

Anything else is not good. If your not dong anything for the cop to stop you, you should be fine. It also depends on how you look. If you look like your gonna menace someone and they see the clip in your pocket they will come at you.

If you do walk around with anything bigger try to carry something with a black pocket clip so it isnt so obvious.

Sometimes they will just warn you that the knife is illegal and to leave it at home.

NYC is great. lol
