Logan Pearce BAD

You handled it well also JDP. You were patient and not an annoying PITA. Kudos to you also bro.
How bout some pics of the blade???

Great to see this turned out for the best. Hopefully the title of this thread will get changed. I clicked on it thinking I'd hear another horror story of someone getting ripped off, especially since it was posted by someone named "scammed." Turns out this ended in a good way. Always glad to see this.

I will admit that at first this whole thing hurt my feelings. Even if it is my fault for not being faster and more available. It did annoy me that he spent so much time making a fake name to post 'bad' things about me. Not sure, I would have ever done that to someone else. Regardless of what they did to me. Especially, if it was making me wait for something. He did make a Youtube account just to copy and paste the same basic stuff he said here on every one of my Youtube videos. Telling them that I was scamming people. However, it was marked as spam. Would have been easier to just go to my front page of the website and read that the best way was a text message, but I do know some people don't like to text. In no way do I mean that to be rude. It is just my thoughts. Which I know I'm not suppose to say as much as I do as a maker, because I might upset people. I tend to do it anyway, because I am me. I try to be the best person that I can be at all times.

But this is all my fault. I should have been better. I should have been faster and I should have been more available during business hours.

I absolutely hate that I make anyone feel like he did. And I have made people feel this way in the past. I am debating on actually getting a full time secretary and maybe an apprentice. I just don't know if my knives would mean the same thing. You know?

You handled that like a gentleman, Logan.

It's very refreshing and nice to see.

I hope that this post serves as an example of your customer service and earns you no ill will/bad rep.

Thank you! I hope it doesn't, but this does happen from time to time. It seems like 1 out of every 200-ish clients get this way. I try to look on the bright side. At least I know that 199 people are happy. I'm not happy that I have any upset clients, but I seriously try my best to juggle between communication and actually finishing the knife. I still have a ways to go though! lol

I seriously hope that I do get enough stock built up in the near future to have a much better customer service. I hate that I am not around as much as I want to be. I can't get the knives to make themselves though. I have tried bribing them, but they just won't do it. :D

You handled that very well. It's always great when these things can be resolved between the parties.

Thanks, Peter. I wish it had been faster and it hadn't come to this. It is my fault and I will happily make up for my short comings the best way that I can.

Wow. That would almost make me wish I didn't request a refund

The good thing about him wanting a refund, is that the people that would be waiting behind him will be that much happier. That is the other upside to first come first serve to me. When someone drops out, I let the others know, when I can. They always seem really glad to hear. Silver linings and all. :)

Nice to see this handled well

I tried! The only way I could have done better was send a free knife. Which I almost did, but then that would potentially make another client upset. So I had to stick with this. lol

Nice to see a good result.

It was definitely my fault for not making the time to call him back in a timely fashion and not completing his order quicker. I would never do either of those things on purpose. That would make all the work I put into the knives pointless. I love my work, but the friends I have made doing this have made it worth doing. If that makes sense?

Kudos Logan! I wish Gene from Nocturnal Knives handled refunds like this.
Joe

I have to say it is because I understand what it feels like. When I order something online, it is so easy, and then I want it right then. It is something cool or different or whatever. If I had to wait 6 months for anything, I would be upset as well. I mean, ideally. I have waited a year+ on handmade items, but I know that if it is a good maker, then I have made money in the long run. Since, they are investments to a degree.

I'm also probably more affordable than Gene. :P I am a pretty cheap date after all. Which is kind of the point though. When I was little I always wanted to get my knives in as many hands as I possibly could. Everyone keeps saying I need to raise my prices to keep stuff like this from happening, but I refuse. So, I do this to myself. It also makes it easier to deal out refunds, plus I never touch the money to begin with, so it isn't spent or anything.

Typically, everyone just complains about the wait. As on my BBB page, but what really made them mad was when I just sent them a refund.

This 100%! Well handled sir.

Thank you, so much! I was afraid people were thinking I was trying to be rude. Which is never my intention. It is rather disappointing, because I try to make my knives worth much more than I sell them for, but I can completely understand not wanting to wait. Plus, if someone doesn't answer my phone call on the first call, I feel ignored. lol. It's understandable.

I visited Mr. Pierce's website to take a look at his work, and he does address both the wait time and communication issues 1st thing on his home page.

That I do! I also say the best way to get a hold of me is through text message. My shop is a metal box in the country. It doesn't help that I live on the stateline, so I bounce between towers. The towers across the state board only allow like AT&T to use them or something. It's weird. I'm rambling..

I miss a lot of calls, half the time I don't even know. That is why I put on there to text me, because I will eventually get that. Most people don't. If I don't answer, then they assume I am scamming them...even though I have a large following that posts my work when they get it and everything. Not trying to be negative at all, just an observation mixed with my confusion.

Anyway, I make a point to be as honest as possible. Which does get me in more trouble than anything. lol

I ordered a knife from Logan a few years ago and paid in advance. He didn't ask that I pay in advance, it's just how the website was set up for orders back then.

He immediately emailed me and said he was backed up and there would be a wait, he also offered me a refund if I didn't want to wait.
I told him I was ok with waiting.

I will admit , his time estimates were a little off and I wound up waiting a few months longer than planned. But he always answered my emails and even gave me a number to text him with questions.

Well ....it was worth the wait, I got a great knife from Logan and at a reasonable price too. Plus he was a nice guy to deal with.....

Just a different experience I guess.

Was that when I was accepting through paypal? Those were dark times! My estimations were terribly off. I would be so freaking happy when I would finish like 200 knives and go to package them, because I would be like yes! This will dent my log.

Nope...

Took me forever to catch up on those orders. I was literally begging people to take their money back. I ended up forcing some people to take refunds. I believe it was around $25,000-$30,000 that I refunded in a weekend. That! ended up making them more angry than making them wait. lol.

I'm glad that you thought it was worth the wait! I try to give it the best I can.

I am so happy when guys like, JDP do wait. At least then I can put in their hand what they waited for. I would hate to think the work I put into my knives isn't worth the wait.

I guess, I should defend my honor a little on the BBB thing. I did have a decent rating until they wanted me to join them officially. They created the page for me and then tried to force to join. I didn't have a great rating, mind you, but it wasn't as bad as it is now. They sent me three letters and called me multiple times. I refused the join, because it felt like they were trying to be my boss? Maybe I am crazy. I just felt at the time that it was my business and that if I wanted a boss I would have went to work for McDonalds.

I realize that might be something I shouldn't say, but it is the way I feel. Some of those people were just trying to use the BBB to jump ahead in line on orders. While others were just annoyed because I was taking a while.

I told them that and that I do each one by hand. That if they had a complaint and didn't want to wait, I would refund them. I may have said that the only time people go to the BBB is to complain as well. Not long after that message....I had the rating that I do now. Personally, I don't care. I try to treat my clients as best that I can. I typically know them personally, because I like that about this. I enjoy talking to them. I love the connections that you get to make.

Plus, I have faith that I will be caught up soon and I won't have to worry about this for much longer. :P Also, I could do like some businesses and send my good clients there to say nice things about me. Seems a little tacky though. (Don't hold it against me if I do that in the future though.) :D

In the end. It is all my fault. Every account of a person being upset about me not being fast enough or not being more available to talk/return calls. I wish it wasn't. However, I am only one person. I try to divide my time up the best that I can, while still having a life outside of work. Luckily, I enjoy it all so much, even the bad moments, that I wouldn't trade it for anything else. Plus, who doesn't enjoy reading slanderous tales about a scam conspiracy that you are the mastermind of? Simply put, I should be better.

Every day I do get better.

I had always hoped that if I was in this part of the forum, someone would name me 'Ugly'. lol, jk. :D It is my fault that I made him wait and didn't return his call in a timely fashion. Things that I know I need to work on and constantly try to.

I doubt the name of it will be changed and I don't mind if it isn't. I would prefer that everyone knows that this happened and that he is upset about it. It serves me right for not giving him the attention that he deserved as a paying customer.

Hopefully, a marker to a time when I wasn't as good as I hope to be in the future.

You, my friend are what we called in Brooklyn a stand up dude!
Glad you made this guy right Logan, and maybe he'll change the title.

IMO , it was well worth the wait. I have quite a few fixed blades and this one gets the most attention whenever someone sees it.

It's hard to believe this started out as a piece of rebar.

That is one wicked looking blade JDP!! Total coolness!!
Thanks for the pic!
Dam!!
Great work Logan!!
Joe

Ha! My rebar knife. :P It is high carbon steel too. That is a few years old, I have changed it a little bit since. Nothing major though. I wanted to do daggers out of them, but man they are a pain.

I think the only one that gets more attention is my wrench knife.

You know if you ever seen it re-sharpened or re-polished that I have you covered. All of that is taken care of in my lifetime guarantee. :)

I try! :D I don't know how he took that good of a picture of it. I go through so much work to make my pictures look half that good. lol.

I just grabbed my iPhone and snapped a picture on the kitchen counter.
Good to hear from you, Logan
Take care
Joe

It is good to hear from you as well, Joe! I hope you are doing well.

Well I haven't heard anything about this since Friday, so I am assuming it isn't worth the follow up for him. According to the tracking number, the package was received on Saturday.

Would like to see him come back and post his thoughts now that he got squared away.
Joe

Very nice; the way you responded & handled this situation, Logan.:thumbup:

Mr. Pearce was at fault and he manned up and took care of it. The OP had every right to be bent out of shape, but acted like a punk. There's only one winner here, and it's the guy who screwed up. Funny how it can work out that way.

It usually works that way when someone who feels that they have been wronged (legit or not) starts a thread kicking and screaming like a 2 year old who just lost his favourite toy.

9 out of 10 times these threads can be avoided with just a little more patience...

By the OP's posted fact and admitted by Logan, I do not see where the OP is out of line.
Yes, the maker finally says he will make good, but actions speak louder than words.
I hope it works out for all, but going after the OP is not completely appropriate. None of this would have been necessary if the maker did the right thing.
Yet another good reason to never pay up front.

Part of being in business is communication and it's free. I own 3 successful businesses and employ 20 people I make time each day to speak with the customers who have questions or concerns.

And no matter how diligent you are in business, over 35 years for me, screw ups will happen. It's how you deal with them that matters. The OP got squared away very quickly and the maker owned the screw up.
I, for one, would like to see the OP return and let us know if he likes what he got and if he's happy. The guy joined this forum specifically to bring this to light.

See that is exactly what I have been trying to tell Amazon. For some reason they make me pay before I can get the stuff I ordered. Even when it is handmade.

Actually, most people that order from me understand the wait. Because they call before ordering and I tell them that it will be a while. Some get impatient and that is fine. I am more than happy to send out refunds. It makes the people in line behind them a lot more happy. :)

But, if I can keep at my current pace, then I will miss having experiences like this. I mean, I wouldn't have talked to most of you had this not happened and you guys seem pretty awesome!

No Amazon makes you pay for it before they ship it. Aka: that means they have the item and it's done and ready in hand. No one ever meant to say that you shouldn't pay for a knife before it ships. Don't pay till it is done and ready to ship- this is just another example of why that makes sense. Do agree that you will hopefully miss having situations like this in the future, but that is completely in your hands.

No, I have had to wait a year for a handmade sweater that I bought on Amazon before. It was a great sweater though, so I can't really complain.

Same thing happened to a friend that ordered a shirt. I think they said theirs was sent from another country though.

I do like how they do the pre-order books though. You can pre-order it and then when it comes out they ship it to you, but only charge you for the lowest price. My better half is an editor, so we get a lot of books. lol. You would think I would write better, but eh. :P
